WITH OUR DEPARTMENTS INSPECTION NEWS Raleigh Waldrop After March 15th maybe we’ll see more smiles, at least the worry of income tax returns should be over. We are glad to have Ulysses Summey back with us after being out due to illness. Ray Hooper and Randall Lankford were out a couple of days each with the "flu”. Rastus Smith has been on vacation for a week but we understand he spent this time trying to get rid of the "flu”. Frances Cox, daugh ter of Charlie Cox has been ill, also Lewis Red mond’s family has been ill with the "flu”. Thurman King has bought a new home in Northwest Brevard. He and family moved in during Thurman’s five days off. Earl Hall is now in the process of building a new home in the Camp Sapphire section. Earl Galloway has pur chased an electric pump and put "city water” in his house. Helen Fullbright spent a week-end in Hickory, N. C. recently visiting relatives. They all welcomed Inez West on her return to the Physical Lab. From the smile she is wearing we know Inez is glad to be back at work. Little bit late finding out, but Buvee has a new Hudson, Buvee, when are you going to take us for a ride? Millard Teague is driving a Nash, kinda hard to tell him from Banning now. Rumors are that Odell Gray invented a "stump puller” but someone borrowed it without Odell’s permission before he finished pulling his own stumps. Odell, it must have been a good inven tion, did you have it patented? CHAMPAGNE MACHINE SHOP By J. R. Poteet Here it is almost spring time again and we are very thankful that we have not had a severe cold snowy winter, as many of us would have suffered with the shortage of coal. Most everyone of the fellows in our shop have had what we call bad colds or flu. We are very glad that Alfred "Cockrobin” Cheek did not lose too much time off the job when he was sick. When the boys heard he was sick, they imme diately got together and sent him a bottle of meaicine and he was back on the job within twenty-four hours. Just what it was I do not know, anyway it did the work. If anyone gets sick just get in touch with "Cockrobin” or D. C. Landreth, they can help you to find the medicine you need. Bob Collier said he had a nice vacation in Florida, a few weeks ago. "ACROSS THE TRACKS" By Betty Finck It really seems like spring when you see the large robins which have been stopping for a rest while on their northward flight. Peter Muffat has been busy again playing the flute in the Asheville Civic Symphony. The Research Department wishes to welcome Marcy B. Newell who hails from Denver, Colo rado. The members of The American Chemical Society, Western Carolinas Section, were en tertained by the Transylvania County members of the Brevard Country Club on March l4th where they enjoyed themselves to the fullest. Sue McLaughlin has recently joined our office staff down here "Across the Tracks” and we, also, wish to welcome Sue into our midst. Incidentally, I would like to mention that your reporter enjoyed the delightful Florida sunshine in Miami Beach and other interesting points along the way while on her vacation. Watch out for the SPRING FEVER now and be back with us next month for a look at hap penings "Across the Tracks”. POWER DEPARTMENT NEWS - By Howell Medford Everyone is looking forward to Spring. The main reason is the trout season. The Power de partment has its share of good anglers. We believe it is necessary to set up a prize for the largest catch. Each fisherman could contribute a few bits at the start of the season and winner get the pot. There are those who garden for a hobby too. We have our own idea of what a good garden should be. We also have a group who have flowers and lawns for a hobby. Sickness and death has visited the families of the Power department. Most all of the men have had severe colds and flu. We are in sympathy with Samuel Kent and his family. Sam’s mother passed away a few days ago after a long illness. We have news of Mrs. Obie Willingham’s brothers death. He was killed in an accident while on duty with the U. S. Army. We offer our sympathy to the family. Jack Sterling passed away after a brief illness. Jack worked in Mr. Finck’s office for a good while. Our sympathy goes to Jack’s family and we are sure everyone will miss his presence. Mrs. Clarence Allison just returned from the hospital where she had an operation. We hope she is soon able to return to her job. Mrs. Allison Continued on page 22 5
