Among the contests are; various races, egg catching, pie and cracker eat ing, rifle matches, swimming, diving, fly casting, ping pong and tennis. One of the highlights of the day will be the Baby Parade at 11:30 A. M. The parade will be under the direction of Mrs. Harry H. Straus, and she urges all employees’ children under four years of age to enter. If you have not sent in the application blank for your child, contact the Per sonnel Department immediately. Boxing matches will start at 1:30 P. M. and bingo and checkers will be available under the shade trees for those who don’t feel equal to the sunshine at the arena. Shown on these two pages are some photo graphs taken at last year’s picnic. From top to bottom; One young man looks like he wouldn’t want any blueberry pie for a long, long time after winning the pie eating contest. The bingo games in the shade were very popular. Many persons braved the very warm sunshine to watch two young sluggers. Noontime found most everyone in the picnic area enjoying fried chicken with all the trimmings. Young and old alike joined in the "tug-o-war”. The "sharpshooters” spent most of the day at the rifle range. At right: Part of the crowd of 6000 that attended the 1949 picnic.
