FIVE YEARS AGO THIS MONTH Pete Nowood of the Power Department visited relatives in Monroe, N. C. Divola Nicholson of the Cafeteria went to Sylva for a few days to see her new baby sister. From the Pulp Mill—we had a visit from Lawrence Tipton who has been discharged, and will be back to work in a few days. Incidentally, "Tip” is a fit subject for "Believe It Or Not”. He went through Africa, Sicily, Italy, Normandy and into Germany without a scratch, but came home to a square dance and sprained his ankle. From Maintenance—"Bub” Thompson tried to ride a motor bike, but from the way he has been limping around on crutches, the bike must have been riding him most of the time. From Champagne—There’s a smile that lights up the faces of the girls when their husbands or boyfriends come home from service. Main office—Ralph Russell won first prize (a $100 War Bond) for the best suggestion on plans and development of Camp Sapphire. Maintenance—^Members of this department gave "uncle” Bill Heaton a party on his 65th birthday. Refining—We saw Earl Gray in a tug-of-war at the Fourth of July picnic, and there is no question as to which side won—Earl’s weight swung the balance. Machine Room—Strong Machine Room team still undefeated, having won 13 straight games. Finishing—Mr. Avery is back from a week’s vacation—said he enjoyed the rest. im WEDDING Dorothy Gail Gray of Champagne was married to Julius L. Nicholson, also of Champagne, at the home of the bride on Sunday, June 25th. Rev. B. W. Thomason, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Brevard, officated. Mrs. Nicholson is the daughter of Mrs. James Jefferson Gray of Bre vard, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Nicholson of Rosman. North Carolina has 12 legal holidays. 2. George Washington was not a land-owner in North Carolina. 3. Kannapolis has the largest towel mills in the world. 4. The Cardinal is the North Carolina State Bird. 5. Manufacturing is the chief industry of North Carolina. 7. Raleigh is one of the three cities in the United States which was planned for a capitol. 8.
