A great deal of improvement has been seen in the iocal archers this year. O. K. Smathers, 1949 North Carolina State Champion, has been giving free instructions at Camp Sapphire on Thursdays and Saturdays during the Summer. This year Jack Edwards, son of Dewey Edwards of the Storeroom, placed second in the Junior Division of the Olympic Bowman League’s In ternational Tournament. O. K. Placed 40th in the Class A Men’s division of the same tourna ment, and won the Southeastern Championship. The Southeastern division consists of 13 states. Despite the fact that many classes were inter rupted by rain, the ladies and the children have shown much interest and improvement. O. K. urges all who are interested to come out and try their luck at hitting the bull’s eye. Top right, the children’s class shows from left to right; Bobby Cabe, Bobby McCall, Tommy Cabe, Jimmy Curwen, Jimmy Lyday, and Judy, Bertie Lou and Peggy Hut chins. Below right, O. K. Smathers is shown at the target with his tro phies and medals. The large trophy at left is for this 1950 Southeastern Championship, the cup at right center is for the 1949 Clout Tour nament in which tournament he placed first in Asheville and fourth in the National Contest, and at right is the large trophy he received for winning the 1949 North Caro lina State Championship. The other cups and medals were won in club tournaments.
