APPLE FESTIVAL QUEEN Nancy Clarke, 18 year old daughter of Harry Clarke of the Maintenance Department, was crowned Queen of the 1950 Apple Harvest Festival in Hendersonville by the Hon. Mon roe M. Redden. She won the title over 21 other contestants from Western North Caro lina. With the title goes a $100 scholarship to Brenau College, and a paid vacation to New Smyrna Beach and Indian River Plantation in Florida. Nancy was sponsored by the Bre vard Chamber of Commerce. Thousands of persons lined the streets of Hendersonville to view the parade and the beautiful apple and gladioli covered float car rying the Queen and her attendants. The pa rade was led by the Ecusta and Hendersonville High School Bands. These bands played a concert at Boyd Park prior to the parade. The crowning of the Queen was the climax of the three day festivities of this annual event. Nancy’s picture appears on the cover of the October issue of Woman’s Home Companion.
