Below; The Mountain Experiment Station and on the facing page, lower right; The Transylvania Cottage. . 'jm The modern $65,000 4-H Club Camp near Waynesville was formally dedicated to Dr. I. 0. Schaub, retiring head of the State Extension Serv ice, in ceremonies Saturday, September 9th. Over 1500 persons attended with the State and twenty Western Counties well represented by officials and civic leaders. Transylvania County had the largest delegation with the exception of Haywood. A motorcade of 25 cars carried over 100 persons, many of whom were Ecustans, to the Mountain Experiment Sta tion where the camp is located. The formal program began at 1:00 P. M. with Mr. Frank Jeter, Agricultural Extension Editor of North Carolina State College, presiding. Tri butes to Dr. Schaub were given by Dr. M. L. Wilson, Director of the Extension Service, Wash ington, D. C.; Hon. L. Y. Ballentine, N. C. Com missioner of Agriculture; and Miss Ruth Current, N. C. Agricultural Extension Service. Dr. James H. Hilton, Dean of the School of Agriculture, N. C. State College, made the formal dedication. The Transylvania Cottage, "Maple” holds the construction record for North Carolina 4-H Cot tages. The building was erected in one day. Many Ecustans contributed materially and fi nancially to the building of the camp, Lewis Meece and Con ward McClure of Champagne and Edgar Meece of Inspection helped to build the Transylvania Cottage.
