X-RAY UNIT VISITS ECUSTA One of the Mobile X-ray units of the State Health Department was in Transylvania October 3rd through 7th, and at Ecusta on October 9th and 10th. Mr. Carl Rowell, technician, and Mrs. Jessie Lollis, County Public Health Nurse, were very well pleased with the response by the citizens of Transylvania. This unit usually tries to take X-rays of around 200 persons each day, but while it was here it averaged almost 500 per day. X- rays were made of 3104 persons in the county, and X-rays were made of 852 Ecustans (this does not include employees who went to the unit while it was at Pisgah Forest, Rosman or Brevard). The unit was sponsored jointly by Transylvania office of the District Health Department and Transylvania County Tuberculosis Association. Film for the X-rays and operation expense were paid from funds received from the sale of Christ mas Seals in 1949- Expenses were greatly reduced by the splendid cooperation of Volunteer Clerical Workers. The Health Department and the local Tubercu losis Association hope that enough money can be raised this year to bring in a larger unit within the next two years which will cover the entire county. Some of the funds are used for follow-up cases, where necessary. m At II Carl Rowell, Technician, gets George Sexton of the Electric Shop ready for a chest X-ray. Jessie Lollis, County Public Health Nurse, shows Sue Nicholson of Endless Belt how to stand for an X-ray.
