550 EMPLOYEES CAN’T BE WRONG! The above photo shows Clinton Morris of the Machine Room, being fitted for the purchase of a pair of SAFETY SHOES on December 21, 1950. Incidentally, this made 500 pair of shoes that had been sold since August 25, 1950, when the Com pany made them available to all male employees at absolute cost. Morris is now undergoing train ing at the duPont Cellophane Plant at Clinton, Iowa, and purchased his second pair of shoes be fore leaving Ecusta on the 29th of December. The response to the safety shoe program has been good indeed, and of the total of 634 pair that were sold through the 19th of January, 75 employees had purchased their second pair. (This fact prompted the heading above, that "550 Em ployees Can’t Be Wrong”). In addition to offering protection against toe and foot injuries, as well as preventing slips and falls, these OXFORDS and SHOES look good and represent a great saving to our employees, (their being available at COST on a cash or payroll de duction basis, is just another feature of service of fered by the Company). To say that safety shoes have made at least 12 of our men very happy during the past 5 months, is putting it mildly. We do know that in 12 spe cific cases that have been reported to the Safety Department by the men themselves, the steel toe cap in their safety shoes has saved at least 11 badly bruised or fractured toes, and in one case, the amputation of one or more toes. (this information was not pulled out of thin air, and the names of these 12 men will be gladly given to anyone in terested, if they will call the Safety Department Office), During recent weeks, one of our employees experienced a fractured big toe and two badly bruised toes, that safety shoes would have pre vented. (unfortunately, he was not wearing safety shoes at the time this accident occurred, but is one of our prospective customers as soon as his toes have healed enough to be fitted). If you who are wearing safety shoes are satis fied with them and feel that they do offer you added protection, tell your fellow-workers ... If you do not have them, or if those you have are not satisfactory, please get in touch with the Safety Department. 14
