The best news that we have had recently is the
construction of a Medical Center between the
Main Office and the Cellophane Plant. The build
ing will be one story high, with a full basement.
Dr. Mac Roy Gasque states that this new Med
ical Center will have all of the most modern
equipment needed for industrial medicine. X-ray
equipment will be installed for diagnostic pur
poses, but will not be used for therapeutics.
Other equipment to be installed will be an
electric cardiograph, to register graphically the
duration and character of the heart’s movement;
apparatus to determine basic metabalism to study
the chemical changes in living cells, by which the
energy is provided for the vital processes and
activities, and new material is assimilated to re
pair the waste; extensive visual testing machine
and devices; and modern equipment for physio-
theragy—hot water baths, lamps, etc.
When the Center is completed there will be
a great expansion of laboratory facilities for
routine and special study of body fluids. Also,
facilities for surgical repair for industrial induced
wounds, application of casts, etc.
With the addition of Dr. David Snelling to
the staff, there will be two physicians, and a reg
istered nurse on duty at all times.
Fiske-Carter Construction Company started
breaking ground in December, and it looks as if
we will soon have one of the best industrial med
ical centers in the country.
