ENDLESS BELT EMPLOYEES ARE PROVING
Following is the presentation talk made by Mr. Thomas N. Word on April 13 th to the employees
of Endless Belt.
April 13, 1951
Mr. Geopfert, Miss Mary Sue Thorne, each
and every employee of Endless Belt Corporation,
and those present from other departments.
It gives me great pleasure to be present with
you today in connection with Endless Belt Cor
poration’s record and accomplishment in accident
prevention.
I know if Mr. Straus were with us, he would be
most happy to make this presentation, as he was
always keenly interested in accident prevention.
The record you have achieved in accident pre
vention is one for you to be proud of. During
seven years of continuous operation, you have
not had a single lost time accident. The last
lost time accident you had was on April 13, 1944,
which gives you a record of 2,556 safe days, with
a total of 1,347,761 safe hours. The only other
lost time accident experienced by you since your
operations started in North Carolina in Septem
ber, 1939, occurred on November 2nd of that
year, when one of the employees lost two days
from work as a result of a bruised finger.
This is certainly a record to be more than
proud of, and I am quite sure that each and
every one of you realize the suffering caused by
serious injuries as well as the hardship caused by
loss of wages, which go hand in hand.
This accomplishment and record is solely due
to the interest of each and every employee in
accident prevention, and I feel quite sure we can
look forward to your continued interest and co
operation, and that every effort will be made by
you to maintain this outstanding record in the fu
ture. To Mr. Newbury, our Safety Director, we
extend our thanks for his part in this achieve
ment. The high goal you have attained is in
deed nice, and should be an incentive to all De
partments here at Ecusta, in their program for
the prevention of personal injuries.
We have received a letter from the Hon. For
rest H. Shuford, Commissioner of Labor of the
State of North Carolina, awarding to the End
less Belt Corporation a safety award in accident
prevention for four consecutive years.
It, therefore, gives me great pleasure to present
to you this special ribbon which has been awarded
to you for this splendid record, which is at
tached to the Accident Prevention Certificate,
which was previously awarded to you.
February 14, 1951

human suffering and the many losses which re
sult from industrial accidents.
Again, the North Carolina Department of La
bor congratulates you, your company, and your

this award possible.
Very truly yours,
