C. S. REPRESENTATIVE Mr. Karl Redfoot has notified us of the ap pointment of Mr. Frank T. Farrell to succeed him as the International Correspondence School rep resentative for this district. Mr. Farrell will be glad to help any Ecusta employee with the selec tion of courses, the same as Mr. Redfoot has done in the past. He will maintain the same office in Asheville at 11 Technical Bldg. ROADSIDE DEVELOPMENT We are all proud of our State, and we are proud of the natural beauty of our County—and justly so. Yetj there are many details, such as the views along some of our highways and county roads, of which we are not proud. It is a challenge to every one. With many organizations participating in the Model Mile program, the location of rural mail boxes along our highways is a major problem to the State Highway and Public Works Commission in the maintenance of the roads and highways. The shoulders of the roads must be moved, the ditches pulled out, and the boxes must be located where the carrier can drive by and serve them without undue difficulty. Mail boxes should be mounted on a portable base in order to allow them to be easily moved out of the way of highway workers and machines, and then replaced in the regular position. The recommended manner for accomplishing this is to use a 4” x 4” post, 44” high, set in a box approxi mately 20” X 20” X 4” and in which concrete should be poured to form a substantial base. If the patrons will follow these suggestions, and paint the boxes and posts white and the flags red, and their name on a paddle to be suspended under the box, crushed stone, gravel or other materials, will be placed on the approaches to the boxes in order to create an all-weather approach for the carrier at all times. Please contact your mail carrier for suggestions as to the best method for your particular location or for any desired information with respect to this matter. Let us all cooperate in this program which will not only create a better appearance, but will be better for all parties concerned. 13
