The above AWARD which was recently re ceived from the National Safety Council, is a tribute to each individual employed by Ecusta Paper Corporation. Competing with 54 Paper Mills in the Paper Industry Safety Contest during 1930, Ecusta fin ished in 8th place by showing a 33 percent reduc tion in the frequency of disabling injuries. This recognition is something we should all be proud of, for it represents a great decrease in suffering and loss of wages, which automatically go hand in hand with disabling injuries. Awards such as the one shown above will al ways be forthcoming for a JOB WELL DONE, so please do not forget that we are in the Paper Industry Safety Contest again this year. In fact, our ZERO frequency rate for disabling injuries for the first four months of 1951, places us in the top three of the 60 Paper Mills who are in Group "A”. The same interest and cooperation that has been manifested by each of you in the past, will insure us of receiving a much larger AWARD at the end of this year. As has been done in the past, CERTIFICATES of APPRECIATION were presented recently to all Departments of the plant who had operated 12 months or more to January 1, 1951, without a lost time accident. The six certificates on the right represent the best safety records in the plant, since these De partments have not experienced a lost time acci dent since operations were started in 1939- In addition to the Certificates of Appreciation shown on the right, the following Departments received one for having from 13 to 113 consecutive months without loss of time; PRINTING, JOB PRINT ING, GUMMING and REPSE, MACHINE BOOKLET, REAMING, CHAMPAGNE MA CHINE SHOP, ENDLESS BELT CORPORA TION, MACHINE ROOM, REFINING, PULP MILL, REPLACEMENT CREW, INSPECTION, CONTROL, ANALYTICAL LAB, ELECTRICAL, YARD CREW, ELECTROCHEMICAL, BOILER ROOM, FILTER PLANT, MAIN OFFICE, STORE ROOM and CAFETERIA. It is gratifying to know that 28 out of 33 De partments have operated 12 months or more without a lost time accident, and it is truly hoped that all Departments will qualify for one of these Certificates next year.
