TECHNICAL SECTION By Jack Smathers Hello” to Henry Purgason, a new member of the lab crew. Henry is replacing Ralph Mann who is going to slit roll inspection. Joan McClure recently re- I turned from vacation in the land of the sun — Florida. Heard that Joan did quite a bit of fishing. As proof she submits a picture of one that got away. He was blond, blue-eyed, handsome and oh-so- nice! Ike Alyea has formed a new partnership. He, like me and many others, has entered into an al liance with the finance companies in owning a car—a new Ford. Now we can watch the Alyea’s go by. I want to thank Betty McGuire for helping me with this column. Betty has been able to supply a major part of the material. Award of the month goes to Jim Winget who on his vacation went bear hunting. The follow ing kills could have been recorded: 1 rabbit, 2 cows, 1 skunk, 1 bottle of strong beverage, and 1 mouse. The bear collected the following: I shot gun, one coat, 3 sandwiches, and one red shirttail. Congratulations to Ray Wike. "Papa” Wike is the proud possessor of his first son, born Novem ber 8, 1951. Welcome to two new members of the Tech Section, James Henson and Dick Talley. A huge crowd attended the welcome party of Friday, November 9th for Cleaves Johnson’s new bride. A lovely time was had by all. Among those attending were Bruce Brown with his best cow boy shirt, and George Yehling with his best loud plaid one. It was a draw as to who looked the best. It has been said that whether you are rich or poor, money is a nice thing to have! GOOD HOUSE- KEEPIN OFFICE By Frances Heath It is with deep regret that we learn of the death of Mr. Herzog’s mother. The Cello phane Office extends deepest sympathy to him and his fam- ily. Needless to say, we are especially proud of the im provements being made on the grounds and park- mg lots. The Office welcomes Ann Akins—Ann comes to us from Canton, and is working in Central Stenographic. We all hope Mr. Bennett has found the warm weather he was seeking when he left here, al though we don’t know his destination. W^e 11 have to wait until Mr. Herzog returns to learn about his vacation. Mr. Atchison is spending two weeks in Granite City, Illinois. Ann Akins attended the Carolina-Tennessee game last Saturday. Well not say anything about her viewpoint of the results. That Bob Anders be given a two week’s leave of absence to recuperate if Tennes see wins its final game. Frank and Verna Smith of the Finishing De partment, Charles Heath and "Yours Truly” tried their luck on Hiwassee Lake last week end. I must admit it was a hopeless case. It is being rumored that wedding bells may ring for Sara McCall when the "fleet comes in ” at Christmas. Kriek, Ted Deacon and Don Parker have been making daily visits to the local junk yard in hopes of finding a place to park their cars. # # * * CAN YOU IMAGINE : : : : : Mr. Spicer still living even after "Be Mean to Spicer Week”. James Bayne is playing Aloysius Abernathy— obviously a man of great wealth and position, in the current "Little Theater” mello-drama, "The Curse of an Aching Heart.” Charlie Porter parking his bus in the approved parking position. Bill Woodward going back to Fontana a sec ond time after his "Fisherman’s Luck” on the first trip. Pete Bennett wearing a conservative necktie. In early manufacturing of cellophane, du Pont had an extensive program in educating their em ployees to call their new product "Cellophane” rather than paper. It seems that their efforts did not reach our Cellophane Office Bowling Team since it has adopted the name "Clear Paper”. Well it must not be too bad, they are at present lead ing the league. 23
