DOWN THE ALLEY WITH GUTTER GUS Ecusta Bowling League: Gutter Gus comes up with this warning to the other members of our bowling league and that is, "Watch out for that Finishing Team.” The Finishing team has estab lished a league record of eight straight wins in the past eight weeks, from December 28th through February 15 th. Four of the matches were shut out victories of 3 to 0 while the other four were decided by scores of 2 to 1. During this time the Finishing Team has moved from twelve games behind the league’s leaders to within four games of the top spot held by the Bees. Gutter Gus would like to call attention also to the fact that only six more weeks of match play remain to be played and there is still plenty of time for each bowler to make a bid for his team’s high individual game or set prize. These prizes are awarded to the members of each team who bowl the highest individual game or set score in cluding handicap, during the season. Our Ecusta entries made a commendable show ing in the I6th annual W.N.C. Tournament as you will notice in the tournament write up, and at this time plans are being made to hold our Annual Ecusta Bowling tournament during the week of February 25th. Last season the Bees copped the Team Event honors while Jim Mctcalf, Ray Rig- don, Jack Rhodes and John Emory were the in dividual stars of the tourney. With two more teams in the league this season and many new participants to tak; part, its anybodys guess who the stars will be in this years classic. We will pub lish the results in the March issue of The Echo. N. C. BOWLING LEAGUE In the past four weeks since January 15th our Ecusta W. N. C. Bowling team has won ten of fifteen games bowled for a record of 47 wins and 22 losses. At this writing on February 15th, the team is leading the league race by a five game margin over the second place Cloverleaf team which has a record of 42 wins and 27 losses. Beginning the third and final round of play on Tuesday night, February 12th, the team took a two to one win over the Brevard American Legion Five. With ten more matches to play, before the season ends on April 22nd, the team is preparing for its roughest competition of the season, thus far and as the fellows enter the home stretch we want to urge them to keep up the good work and bring home the championship. Take the conceit out of some men, and they would be like a ribless umbrella. Even a mosquito doesn’t get a slap on the back until he starts working. Philosophy is just common sense in a dress suit. 8
