'A" SHIFT COATING By Lonnie Jones Well here goes for a little news and gossip. The past month has been quiet. The boys have been very busy, and there’s not much gossip. There is one item. Mon roe McCall wants to trade some rabbits for a good shot- .gun. He says he can’t hit rabbits with his twenty- two rifle. How about that Monroe? Joe Younghusband, "A” Shift Casting, and Ace were introduced to bird and rabbit hunting in the Southland last month. Ace says the birds here fly too high and fast. After shooting all the feathers out of one it’ll still fly off. Joe Younghusband wants someone to explain to him how a rabbit can hide behind a broom straw. Melvin Atkinson has the new car blues, I saw him in Asheville the other day trying out a new Ford. What does your wife say about it, Melvin? Lewis, where were you going so early Sunday morning. It was mighty early to be up after work ing evenings. David Garren is having hawk trouble around his place. He chased one all day, and shot every shell he had at it. Then when the last shell was gone, the hawk returned for a nice chicken din ner. I can’t get much on Buckner since the squirrel season closed, but I hear he has a good hunting dog for next year. Good luck, Buck, That is all the news from "A” Shift Coating for this month. Maybe March will blow in more news. "B" SHIFT COATING By Floyd Ellis Another month has rolled around, and it seems that D. S. Winchester is keeping his hands full and doesn’t have any time left to get news to go in The Echo. I don’t know how I will be at get ting it. Hope I can do a reasonable job. This month we welcome a fellow to our shift who has been on the relief shift for quite some time. Jim Dalton is the fellow we are speaking about. Welcome to this shift Jim. We are mighty glad to have you. We also lose a guy this month. He is Joe Nor man. He is taking over the relief for a while now. Good luck Joe—we hate to lose you. It seems as though D. S. Winchester is keeping pretty busy since he bought himself a tractor. He says the chores around the house his wife makes him do, and the work he "TRIES” to do on the tractor keeps him plenty busy. I have tried to get Preston McCrary to let us have a picture of his latest income tax deduction. It seems he hasn’t got one yet, but maybe we can have a picture next month. Troy Bryan said he had a good time at the American Legion dance last week, which was for the benefit of the March of Dimes. Well that’s all for this time folks. Wish me, and my readers luck next month. So long til then. 'C" SHIFT COATING By John Baldwin and John D. Smith 'j/—- Jack Mackey was compelled to take a week of his vacation during February due to a death in his family. We hope when he takes another week it will be under better conditions. Hovey Waldrop has a new T.V. set. However, we are all wondering just how long he will have it, since Dave Blackwell is trying to get Sears to take it back and let him be the one to repossess it so he can keep it for himself. Anyone in need of some tree surgeons contact Hubert Batson, Dave Blackwell or Hank Puega- son on "C” Shift. We understand they had seven men and worked two days cutting down one tree and, as this is written, the tree is still standing at about a 45° angle. Has anyone noticed that David (Chubby) Sams is getting fatter and balder. Joe Black has lost his pants. No reward is to be given if they are returned. Joe says he is getting to fat for them to do him any good anyway. Jack Mackey sure enjoys his stallion when we are on 12 to 8. We all wonder where he learned to be a cowboy. Here is a bit of news we wish wasn’t true. Doyle Baynard is going to transfer to "D” Shift as a No. 2 operator. We realize that our loss is "D” Shift’s gain. Lots of luck Doyle. I passed John Baldwin’s house the other day and his kids were all crying. When asked what their trouble was they said, "Daddy has taken all our comic books off.” I thought this was a dirty way to do but didn’t say anything about it. When I got up town at the A & P parking lot there was John and Ike Alyea exchanging comic books. It looks as though neither John or Ike buy the comic books for their children. "So long as we love we serve; so long as we are loved by others I would say that we are indispensable; and no man is useless while he has a friend.” —Robert Louis Stevenson 20
