OFFICE BITS By Alex Duris Notice a lot of long faces these days. No, people are not mad at one another! They are just a little bit upset about filling out income tax re turns. Look as they will, they can’t find enough legal deduc tions to make it worthwhile. Oh well^ just look forward to the day when both the state and federal governments cut taxes. Mrs. Mollie Spohn, is the new young lady at the Ecusta switchboard. She comes to us from Brevard. We are glad to have you with us Mollie, so just pull up a chair and make yourself at home. Charles Brewer, is leaving Ecusta for a date with "Uncle Sam.” Charley leaves for Charlotte, where he will be assigned to his training camp in the army. We hope the promotions come fast Charley and that you will pull the minimum of K. P. and other details! Ola Gooch had the misfortune to fall and break her arm. Here is hoping that the cast may be re moved in the minimum of time and that your arm will be O. K. Noticed Martha Frazier, picking some early spring flowers. Real spring cannot be too far away now. It certainly will be a welcome treat after the long drawn out winter months which restrict activity and enjoyment of out of door life. Mrs. Aida White, is the young lady who is working in Mr. Peter’s office. Aida now lives in Asheville but formerly lived in Havana, Cuba. We are glad to have you with us and hope you i Enjoying their new tricycle are Becky Lou (Passen ger), 18 months old, and Marilynn Alane, 3 years old. We are most sorry to learn of the death of Catherine McCloud’s mother, Mrs. Ansel West, who passed away in Anderson, South Carolina. No reports of vacation’s taken. Everybody seems to be too busy to be able to take a vacation at this particular time. End of the year work, etc., does not permit for dreaming of far away places and the fun that we anticipate on vacation trips. To a schoolboy, leap year doesn’t mean anything but another day at school. No matter what happens, there is always some one who knew it would. Who can remember the old days when dad got all the blame for the ashes on the rug? Nothing can be made to sound more profane than the honk of an automobile horn. Some people marry for love, some for money, and some for only a short time. Patience is the ability to idle your motor when you feel like stripping your gears. We’re always wishing for what we haven’t got —but what else is there to wish for? As we understand it, the rising generation re tires about the time the retiring generation rises. There is only one thing a wife will admit she do esn’t know and that’s why she married her hus band. How time flies! It’s just a spring from winter to summer. The best way to save face is to keep the lower end of it shut. When an apple a day costs more than keeping the doctor away brother, that’s inflation! If you want to forget all your troubles, wear a pair of tight shoes. 25
