Shooting Expert Will Give An Exhibition at 3 P.M., May 10-11 At Camp Straus ... I Herb Parsons, spectacular shooting expert, will give an exhibition at Camp Straus on May 10 and 11, demonstrating world famous Winchester guns, and Western and Winchester ammunition. The public is cordially invited. Firing twelve guns in 52 different ways over 700 times in approximately 57 minutes has gained Mr. Parsons the title, "Wizard with the Win chester rifle.” His program is a rapid succession of amazing feats, which include many thrilling shots exclusive with him. An internationally known shooter, he has added golf and football to his feats with his Winchester firearms. As a golfer, he hooks, slices or drives straight away as he levels his Model 12 with a shotgun slug at a high thrown ball. Or he’ll toss one, two or three targets between his legs like a football center, and blast them one by one as he picks up his gun on the turn. The cowboy’s trick of bouncing a tin can on the ground is just a warmup for Parsons who can make a tiny wood block dance in the air with a .22 rifle. Throwing up a 2l/i inch cube of hard wood, he cracks the block then splits the splinters into bits with four bullseyes in an average of three seconds. In another rapid-fire feat Parsons makes his ammunition become its own target. Shattering a tiny pitch ball with a .22 bullet, he ejects the empty cartridge case and hits it, while still in the air, with his next shot. He repeats this until he has emptied his rifle, hitting an empty case with each shot. Parsons brings with his exhibition an enviable record as a shooter. He is former winner of the Pacific International Trap Shoot with a record of 399 out of 400 targets. His personal trophy room is a museum in itself, including among others a wild Havalina Boar, a deer, a bobcat, rattlesnake, a brown bear and a tremendous black bear which is only 4 inches shorter than the recognized world record. The latter was bagged on his 1947 shoot ing exhibition tour which took him into Alaska. Parsons started shooting when he was eight years of age. At the age of nine he got his first limit of quail. Ever since he has been adding to his records and achievements. During World War II he gave invaluable service in instruction to thousands of aircraft gunners in hitting fast mov ing targets. Prior to his induction he gave shoot ing exhibitions at 161 Army, Navy and Marine Corps installations. Since his return to civilian life Parsons has per formed before large audiences in Alaska and Can ada, as well as the famous Cheyenne Frontier Days, International Rice Festival and the National Field Trials. Plans are now being made to bring him to your community soon. Don’t miss seeing a Parsons exhibition. You’ll not only see human skill at its highest perfection, but you’ll also get a new understanding of the high perfection and almost unbelievable possi bilities of Winchester world standard guns and Western and Winchester ammunition.
