NATIONAL SAFETY COUNCIL AWARD TO ECUSTA PAPER CORPORATION ECUSTA PAPER DIVISION. PISGAH FCHIEST. NORTH CARCH-INA SECOND PLACE GROUP A. PULP » PAPER MHXS DIVISK»i PAPER INDUSTRY SAFETY CONTEST JANUARY 1. 1951-DK2MBER 31. mi H H .NATIONAL SAFETY COUNCIL The A-W-A-R-D shown above, as well as the PENNANT over on the right, are forms of rec ognition that every member of the PAPER DI VISION should be justly proud of. When the Paper Division became a member of the National Safety Council in 1941, it immedi ately entered the yearly Safety Contest conducted by them for pulp and paper mills throughout the United States and Canada. Group "A”, as shown on the above AWARD, consists of 55 such mills who have 750 or more employees, and it is in deed gratifying to have obtained SECOND PLACE in this contest for the year 1951. It would be impossible to single out and pay tribute to any one person or group of persons for having established such a record, so we wish to say WELL DONE to every individual on the payroll of the Paper Division. Without the co operation that has been manifested by supervision and employees alike in our over-all accident pre vention program, such recognition would not have been forthcoming. The standings in the yearly Safety Contest are based on the American Standards Association Code for judging disabling injuries, and this means that all permanent partial disabilities are classified as lost time accidents. Even though we were charged with four lost time cases during 1951 as a result of the above Code, we actually experienced two lost time accidents that resulted in a total of 24 days’ loss of time away from work. The frequency rate of disabling injuries for 1951 showed a 55.5% reduction over the year 1950, and this reduction represented a great de crease in suffering and loss of wages to our per sonnel. Surely the efforts extended by everyone concerned in helping to eliminate the two items mentioned above were more than justified. Your manifested acceptance of the fact that SAFETY IS EVERYBODY’S BUSINESS will, no doubt, contribute to our establishing even better safety records in future years. 10
