CAMP STRAUS COACHING SCHOOL OPENS JULY 14 WILL BE 5-WEEK SESSION The sixth annual Boy’s Coaching School will open its 1952 session at Camp Straus on Monday morning, July 14, for boys between the ages of 7 and 14. The school will be in session five weeks with classes being held each week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, from 9:30 A. M. until 12 noon. The Coaching School will end on Friday, August 15th. Classes will be set up according to age groups with competitive games arranged between boys of the same ages. The fundamentals of many sports will be taught and special emphasis will be placed on swimming and water safety. Each boy attending the school is urged to wear, or bring, a pair of swimming trunks, a "T”, or play shirt, a pair of tennis shoes and towel. GEORGE SEXTON WINS HENDERSONVILLE GOLF TOURNAMENT Friday the thirteenth proved to be a lucky day for George Sexton of Cellophane Maintenance. On June 13, George, who lives in Henderson ville, won the first annual Hendersonville Coun try Club Men s Invitation Golf Tournament by defeating N. C. W. Gennett of Asheville 8 and 7 in the 36-hole championship finals. ARCHERY INSTRUCTIONS OFFERED AT CAMP STRAUS STATE CONTEST TO BE HELD THERE, JULY 19 AND 20 Archery is having its usual summer revival un der the direction of O. K. Smathers. Each Wed nesday afternoon at 5 P. M. all children, both ex perts and novices, are invited to shoot or learn at Camp Straus. O. K. Smathers, Bill Bangs, and Harry Ballard will be on hand to give expert ad vice. On Thursday afternoons at 5 P. M. all adults with itchy fingers and the desire to flex a bow are welcomed at the same location for practice or advice. Of further interest to all bowmen is the North Carolina State Archery Tournament to be held at Camp Straus on July 19 and 20, with some 75 to 100 archers entered in the contest. This tourna ment is held every year under the auspices of a local archery club affiliated with the National Archery Association, and this year is sponsored by the Sylvan Valley Archers, a newly organized group of Transylvania enthusiasts. Anyone who is a member of the organization may enter this tournament, and anyone in the county who is in terested in archery is cordially invited to join the club and participate in the contest.
