"A." SHIFT COATING By Lonnie Jones Here it is time for another Echo report, and I’m late get- jk ting it in as usual. Everyone S on "A” Shift is back at work after our days off on the 4th of July. Everyone had a nice time at the Fourth of July Picnic. I don’t think anyone from our shift took any prizes, but they were in there trying. The fishing for the month of June must have been off. I haven’t had any report of any being caught. I don’t think the boys have had much time to fish because they have been mowing their yards, and working in the gardens. Buckner reports progress on his new home is coming along nicely. He told me last night that he had just finished laying the plastic tile in his kitclien. Kinda hard on your back wasn’t it. Buck. Monroe McCall has had a little chicken thief trouble around his place. He sat up all night with his shot gun trying to catch the guilty one. After sitting there all night, just at day light one of his big tom cats came out of the chicken house with a nice fryer for his breakfast. Monroe wants to know if any one wants a nice cat for a pet. If so get in touch with him. David Sams wants to know if Bill Huffman has that trophy cabinet built yet. David says he sure will be needing it with all of the trophies that Cellophane Operations has been winning, and it looks like they will be due another one before long with the interdepartmental baseball league coming to a close. That’s all for this month. "W SHIFT COATING By Floyd Ellis Hi folks, this is your monthly reporter again with a little more dope on the fel lows here on "B” Shift. First of all let me say that the 4th of July Picnic held at Camp Straus came off with big success. Our department was well represented and each enjoyed the con tests and games. Back from vacation, which by the way, winds up our departmental vacations, is Bud Pettit. Bud visited Clinton and says he had a wonderful time except for one thing which was the weather. He says that it is plenty hot in Clinton about this time every year. Jim Dalton who went to Clinton also and then on out west says he also enjoyed his vacation very much. Jim tells us that he went into fifteen (15) different states while traveling. Out of the fif- tetn he tells us that Arkansas was the one he liked the best. The Ozarks, the climate, the water and the scenery-all mighty interesting and worth see ing. Jim Silvers has given up hope of having the "Plymouth Streak”, The latest report I have had is that he has himself a motorcycle. We don’t know how long he will keep that before he trades for a car or a "what-have-you”. Troy Bryan has been keeping himself pretty quiet lately. When I ask him for some news he tries to tell me he has been a "good boy” and hasn’t done anything to report on. They tell me that is when people are up to quite a bit of mean ness. Look out Troy, I might catch you next month. Henry Bell has himself a new neighbor now. Your reporter has moved next door and asks Henry if he will loan him his lawn mower so he can cut his grass. On second thought I believe I need something a little heavier from the looks of the weeds. "C" SHIFT COATING By John Baldwin and John D. Smith Since the political pot is boiling we should be able to get by easy this month. We feel that no one will read this anyway. However, just let the pot boil and bubble—that’s what Americans thrive on. How far can an Echo reach? We just had a compliment from High Point, N. C., on the Echo from Rev. Bill Mewboro who is attending the Methodist Seminary there. Correction please: Last month we stated that Hovey’s potatoes were cracking the ground. He discovered however, that it was moles instead. Jack Mackey goes to Camp for two weeks next month. We wish him many happy-hup-two-three- four. That’s not a hotel going up on the Greenville Highway. Hubert Batson is just remodeling his house. Jule Lowery spent his vacation in Lexington, S. C., fishing. He caught four cat fish, we don’t know how many kitten fish he got. Dave Blackwell has gone in the rabbit business. If you get in trouble, Dave, most of the boys on "C” Shift own guns—we will be glad to help you out. We are not going to write any fish tales this 30
