Recent recipiants of safe driver awards were: thur Wilson, Oscar Gasperson, Clyde Sorrells, (left to right) James Rigdon, Brodus Powell, Ar- Robert Wilson and {inset) Ed Moore and Ed Moss. MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATORS RECEIVE RECOGNITION With Mr. L. F. Dixon, General Manager of the Paper Division making the presentation of SKILL FUL DRIVER AWARDS and Pocket Cards, eight employees of the Transportation Department re ceived recognition on September 3, 1952 for hav ing operated motor vehicles of Ecusta Paper Cor poration from 1 to 12 years without having had an accident. In presenting Mr. Dixon to the group. Bob Bolt stated that the personnel of the Transportation De partment were not only interested in their own personal safety and in keeping unnecessary ex penses that result from accidents at a minimum, but that they were all deeply interested in the safety and welfare of their fellow-men. He cited the fact that a safety motto that has been publi cized at length to all the men, is to START EARL IER, DRIVE SLOWER and LIVE LONGER. In presenting the AWARDS to the men, Mr. Dixon expressed sincere appreciation for their manifested cooperation in the over-all program to eliminate needless accidents and personal injur ies, and urged that each operator of a motor ve hicle continue to observe all traffic rules and safe driving practices. He stressed the important part that motor vehicle operators could play in helping to eliminate needless traffic accidents, and thereby assist in lowering the number of fatalities that are occurring daily on the public roads and highways throughout the State. Considering the fact that the fleet of motor ve hicles consists of 7 cars and 8 trucks that are op erating approximately 175,000 miles each year, these men can be justly proud of their safety rec ord. There is no doubt but that their observance of the age-old axiom that Stop Signs mean "STOP” . . . and not just ”SLOW DOWN”, has contributed greatly to this achievement of the Transportation Department personnel. These AWARDS in silver and gold plated lapel pins were furnished by Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, and were distributed as follows: James M. Rigclon, 9 years; Brodus C. Powell, 1 year; Arthur C. Wilson, 9 years; Oscar L. Gasperson, 5 years; Clyde T. Sorrells, 1 year; Robert E. Wilson, 10 years; Ed Moore, 5 years; and Eddie T. Moss, 12 years.
