HILLBILLIES UNABLE TO STOP PIRATES The Pirates, of our Ecusta Bowling League, are leading the other teams after seven weeks of play. They fead by a margin of three games over their nearest rivals—the Cello-Mecks. The Hillbillies, a rip-roaring team, with an eye on the flag, have been on the heels of the Pirates all season. They dropped an important match to the Pirates on November 7, and were thrown back a rung in the ladder. While the Hillbillies were losing, the Cello- Mecks were winning over the Sparkies and now the boys from the hills are sharing third place with Transportation, and Cello-Mecks are in second place. There seems to be definite fight among the Pirates, Transportation, Hillbillies and Cello- Mecks for the crown. All teams are voicing threats. The Bees, winners of last year’s title are buzzing around in fifth place with the Sparkies saying "Say it ain’t so Joe, say it ain’t so!” Gutter Gus, our mythical bowling enthusiast, states that although Clear Paper and the Pick-Ups are on the bottom of the standing, these teams will upset the top contenders at times when victory is needed by the leaders. Gutter Gus adds: "Friday night is bowling night. Join a team. Call the Athletic Department for information.” ECUSTA WNC BOWLERS IN THIRD PLACE Our Ecusta bowling team is in third place at this writing, only 2Y2 games behind the league leading Clover leaf team and V2 of a game behind the second place Champion Y team of Canton. The team is doing a fine job in defense of its 1951 and 52 championship crown, after twelve weeks of league play. Gutter Gus knows that our Ecusta keglers will be in there giving their very best efforts to re tain their crown. If they keep up their present pace of fine bowling Gutter Gus doesn’t see how they can miss his predictions that they will cap- rare the championship again this season. Here’s hoping. Through Tuesday, November 4, five of our team’s six members were posting individual av erages of 180 or better. Bruce Reynolds, Ecusta’s No. 1 bowler was listed as the second best in the WNC league with an average of 190.18 pins per game for 36 games bowled. Other individual av erages for our team members were as follows: Clyde Galloway 184.25 for 27 games; Ed Lass 184.5 for 24 games; Lewis Meece 181.14 for 33 games; John Emory 180.15 for 33 games and Chris Rogers 175.6 pins per game for 18 games bowled. STAR OF THE MONTH Carrol Fletcher, of the Cello-Meek team, took the laurels for the season so far, as well as for the month, on Friday night, October 24. Carrol or ganized an exclusive 600 club all of his own as he bowled the highest individual set score of the season for a total of 604 pins. The remarkable thing about his three game total of 604 pins, consisting of games totaling 232, 211 and 161 pins each, Carrol achieved this fete with the handicap of one finger on his bowling hand being in a splint, due to an injury a couple of days before the match. So cangratulations go to Carrol for his fine fete of bowling. Gutter Gus predicts that many of our bowlers will be trying hard to join the Fletcher 600 Club during the balance of the season. The high individual game honors thus far go to Ecusta’s number one bowler Bruce Reynolds. Bruce rolled the highest individual game score of 246 pins on Friday night, October 31. Bruce is currently leading the league with an individual average of 180 pins for 12 games bowled His av erage in the W. N. C. League at this writing is 191 pins per game for 33 games bowled, which ranks him as having the third highest individual average in the league.
