APPLE BUTTER TIME
PEOPLE . .
Tom McCormick is the recognized authority on
apple butter in the Inspection Department. After
spending one day making enough for his own use,
Clyde Crowder and Howard Lawing talksd him
into making some for them. Tom is shown at left
clipping the apple butter from the kettle and fill
ing the jars as Clyde places the jars in hot water.
Howard has temporary duty on the stir. Tom’s
daughter, Hazel, sees that the job is well done.
Seven bushels of apples went into this batch, which
will make about eighteen gallons of apple butter.
The apples are cooked in a copper kettle on this
outdoor fireplace.
GOLF CLINIC
Hans Merrell, golf professional of
Breathnach County Club, Cuyahoga
Falls, Ohio, is shown as he conduct

Straus. Hans, well known in W.
N. C. golfing circles before going
to Florida and Ohio to compete
with golfing’s best in those areas,
gave valuable "Know how” to local
duffers. Proper stance and grip for
driving was demonstrated by Mr.
Merrell as well as the follow
through and completion of drive.
Hans is the twin brother of Fritz
Merrell, Ecusta athletic director.
