Everyone over here had a
very nice Thanksgiving from
what I’ve heard. Charles and
Thelma Glazener spent the
day at Sanford, N. C., which
meant a good bit of driving
for one day, but they made it
and reported a nice time.
Times passes so rapidly, and I haven’t reported
on Mary Jane McCall’s vacation at Wichita Falls,
Texas, yet. She had a grand time looking for oil
wells and what went with them. None suited her,
so she came back without them. To answer a
question many people have asked me — No, she
didn’t go to Texas to see "Satch”, but she did have
a glorious two weeks.
Gene Eggert and wife spent their vacations in
Washington and New York. Gene said the traffic
in New York, as usual, was terrible—he got
around faster by walking. Gene saw a Volkswagon
and really would like one. Shall we fulfill his
wish and give him one for Christmas?
"Rice” Robinson drove to Washington during
her vacation—all went well with the exception of
a flat tire.
Lillie Nicholson must be a plutocrat—she went
to warm, sunny Florida for her vacation.
Bob McDarris spent his vacation farming at
Barnardsville. Some people just don’t ever tire of
Charles Jolliff reported a nice time way up
there in Boston during his two weeks of vaca
Others taking vacations during the past two
months were Marcus Laws, Harold Owens, and
We are glad to hear that U. G. Batson’s son.
Bill, is recuperating nicely from an operation; and
also that Harry Kolman is back at work with us
after a recent illness.
Oh, by the way, I haven’t reported on the Hal
loween Masquerade Party in Brevard and which
several members of our staff attended. Bob Rhyne
seems to have been the "lady of the hour”. He
was unrecognizable with his make shift feminine
figure and womens’ apparel. He really had a way
with the men, just ask those who had the honor
of dancing with him! Frank Ferrell went to the
party impersonating Groucho Marx, cigar and all.
How did you get along with the "eye-rolling” so
characteristic of Groucho, Frank?
Word has gone around that Lloyd Harris has
been wanting a new car, and since his wife
wouldn’t let him buy one, he thought it could be
accomplished by wrecking his old one. As of now
— no success.
Gunther Baldauf is extremely proud about the
way his chickens have been laying. Up to now,,
one chicken has laid the total sum of two eggs!
Lloyd Harris’ daughter, Nancy, was given a
very nice birthday party on November 17. When
I asked Lloyd how old his daughter was, he re
fused to tell me on the grounds that he would be
giving away his age. As far as Lloyd is concerned,
he is still 22; but when he combs his hair every
morning, his dreams are shattered!
Here’s hoping everyone has a very Merry Christ
mas and a prosperous New Year.
IT’S YOUR SKIN
Few persons realize what an important function
their skin performs. Its functions can be sum
marized as protection, heat regulation, secretion,
water balance, and absorption. It protects us from
infection and secretes sweat and oil to protect us
from light and heat.
If yours is a job that may cause injury to your
skin be sure that you use the protective creams
which are supplied to you. Bathe frequently with
soap and warm water and thoroughly rinse off
all soap. Remember that your skin serves you well
and you must assist in its protection by using
There is a wonderful mystical law of nature that
the three things we crave most in life—happi
ness, freedom, and peace of mind—are always at
tained by giving them to someone else.
