Jim Silver is on vacation right now so maybe
he will have something when he returns. He got
a traffic ticket for having improper equipment
on the highway, so watch out if you have a flat
tire. Don’t try running to a station on it. They
tell me the new Patrolman is really making him
self known around here. Just ask Jim about this.
(He knows.)
D. S. Winchester has an "A Model” that he is
fixing from the ground up—including the emer
gency brake. He said that when they started the
inspection back again, all he would have to do
would be to pull up to a checking station and say,
"Here it is boys”, and not have to worry about
anything.
Well folks, the bloodmobile was around again.
Let’s hope everybody rolled up their sleeves and
gave a pint. We never miss it and it might save
someone’s life. Too, let’s all try to make this the
perfect month with no accidents. We can do it if
everyone will make a special effort. So let’s try,
what say?
Lee McCrary is building a new home in the Flat
Rock section. We know you will really enjoy it
when you get moved, so here’s hoping it won’t be
long, Lee.
Preston McCrary is taking his turn at keeping
the garage men busy. He took his car to one place
and they just wanted $112.00 to fix it, so he trav
eled to Asheville and got it done for $35.00. Wish
I could do that well, Preston, but we can’t all be
lucky.
I just got back from vacation and the only day
that went wrong was the day it was over. But life
can’t all be a vacation. So I’ll settle down to work
for another year.
It seems everyone else, except Jim Dalton and
Henry Bell, just stayed home and took it easy on
their long layover.
Jim Dalton said he was a regular farmer over
the week end. Getting ready for Spring planting
eh, Jim? Good luck on it, Boy.
Henry Bell is in the market for a good used car
so if you have a good one see Henry. Then maybe
Mrs. Bell will see more of him. It seems he spent
most of his time over on Coxe Avenue in Ashe
ville looking for a bargain. You may be on the
wrong street for bargains, Henry. Try a change
of streets and see if that works okay.

With the election over, Christmas and New
Year come and gone, most of the Income Tax re
turns filed, there just isn’t much to write about,
however, we ran across a poem which we think is
very good and hope you will like it.
"AROUND THE CORNER”
Around the corner I have a friend,
In this great city that has no end.
Yet days go by, and weeks rush on.
And before I know it, a year is gone.
And I never saw my old friend’s face.
For life is swift and a terrible race.
He knows I like him just as well.
As in the days when I rang his bell.
And he rang mine. We were younger then,
And now we are busy, tired men—
Tired with playing a foolish game,
Tired with trying to make a name.
“Tomorrow”, I say, "I will call on Jim,”
Jus to show that I’m thinking of him.
But tomorrow comes—and tomorrow goes
And the distance between us grows and grows.
Around the corner yet miles away.
"Here’s a telegram. Sir”,
Jim passed on today.
And that’s what we get—and deserve in the end,
Around the corner, a vanished friend.

It is much better to say a good thing about a
bad fellow than to say a bad thing about a gccxl

TAKE TIME
Take time to live, it is one secret for success.
Take time to think, it is the source of power.
Take time to play, it is the secret of youth.
Take time to read, it is the foundation of all
knowledge.
Take time for friendship, it is the source of happi
ness.
Take time to laugh, it helps lift life’s load.
Take time to dream, it hitches the soul to the
stars.
But, above all, take time to be safe—for without
safety we cannot take time for any of the rest.
What is needed is a continual drive to educate
the driving public.
