In the above photo, Parsons has just made his "atomic” shot in which he shatters a 5-gallon jug of gasoline, letting it spill into a heated metal barrel. The end result is an explosion that is similiar (in ap pearance only!) to the blast of an atom bomb. OVER THREE THOUSAND ATTEND ANNUAL PICNIC A noon shower failed to dampen the spirits of the several thousand persons who attended our annual picnic on the Fourth of July. Although many persons were caught in the open by a flash shower and got'soakin’ wet, they stayed on to en joy the afternoon program. Herb Parsons’ shooting exhibition was ^he highlight of the program that began at 9:30 A. M., and concluded with a baseball game at 4:00 P. M. The fast-talkin’ gun handler from the hills of Tennessee kept the crowd spellbound for 60 minutes with his running commentary and un believable sharpshooting. One and all agreed that it was one of the best shows ever seen in ''these parts.” Mr. Parsons was assisted by H. F. "Spud” Ayer, Western-Winchester representative for North Carolina. In the closing event of the day, the Ecusta baseball team suffered a 6-0 defeat at the hands of the Berkeley Spinners. A list of the first and second place winners in the various events and contests can be found on pages three and four. 1
