SOFTBALL LEAGUE TOURNAMENT
TO CLIMAX A VERY
SUCCESSFUL SEASON
Monday afternoon, September 7th will mark
the beginning of the 1953 Ecusta Softball League
Tournament with nineteen teams participating.
The league officials, Hugh Bradburn, president;
and directors W. F. Huffman, David Sams, Wil
son Gregory and Mitchell Taylor in a meeting on
Wednesday, August 12th declared the closing date
of the season for Friday, September 4th, with the
post-season tournament scheduled to start the fol
lowing Monday.
The officials voted to award the league’s team
with the best won and lost record at the end of
the season the coveted Harry H. Straus Trophy
and to award the Play-Off Trophy to the winning
team of the tournament.
Since the beginning of the softball league play
on May 21st some 441 employees have taken part
in a total of 250 games played.
The league officials, managers and players are
to be commended for the wonderful success of
our softball league ,and they are to be congratu
lated for the fine spirit of fellowship, fair play
and good sportsmanship they have displayed
throughout the s'^ason.

Jack Ammons, ace right-hander, has pitched the
Ecusta team to two thrilling victories recently
over the league-leading Berkeley Spinners. In
winning these games. Jack had excellent control
and a wide assortment of pitches. Ecusta has had
four wins this season over the Industrial League
champs who have lost only six.
