OFFICE By lone Cordell and Ann Akins We still have vacations to report so Charlie Porter will be relieved to know we haven t run out of material for The Echo news. Ralph Heller and family divided two weeks vacation between Cape May, N. J., and Bethle hem, Pa. Nelson Monteith and his wife also journeyed northward on their vacation. They spent two weeks in Philadelphia and Atlantic City. The two bachelors, Howard Barnes and A1 Kriek, refused to show the pictures of their re cent week’s vacation at Myrtle Beach, but we gather that they did not have a dull time. The Don Parkers spent a two week vacation in Philadelphia, Atlantic City, and Wildwood, N. J., and report they had a wonderful time. Bill Orr has now moved to his new residence on Park Avenue. Norman Ponder also stayed at home on his week’s vacation. Norman’s young daughter is in Greenville Hospital with a broken hip. We all hope that Lucy Ann will be home soon. Bill Gardner and Bob Black have received their orders and are to report to Charlotte on Sept. 17 for their physicals. Helen and Jim Furr are caught up in the whirl of home building. Their new home will be locat ed at Pisgah Heights. In case everyone is wondering what is different about Evelyn Wilson, it is her new hairdo. It is very becoming. Bob Black has been observed recently going around talking to himself and giggling about "roastin ears”. Perhaps the Olinaires can explain what is ailing him. We have a suggestion for next year’s inter-de partmental tournaments. We believe that a less strenuous sport, such as ping pong should be or ganized because softball is a little too rough, as is evidenced by the splints, casts, and crutches here and there. Ray Bennett is sporting a bandaged hand also, but not from "sports”. He cut his hand while juggling light bulbs. Jack Keating, A1 Kriek and Bob Arnold re cently made a business trip to Winston-Salem; Ed Koch and Tom Mitchell, to New York; and How ard Barnes to New Haven. * * * (Co-reporter’s note) We wish to extend our sympathy to Ann Akins on the recent death of her brother, Jimmy York. He used a dolly from the Paper Finishing Department and painted while he scooted along.
