FIRE PREVENTION—INSPECTION CHECK LIST The following list is furnished to remind you of the more important things to look for if you are called upon to make a fire prevention inspection. Unless some other more specific list is furnished, carry it with you and consult it frequently as you go along. 1. Electrical equipment: a. Switches, b. Insula tion, c. Fuses, d. Grounding. 2. Matches or smoking: a. Confined to places permitted, b. Safety matches, only, used. 3. Heat hazards: a. No combustible material in contact with steam pipes, furnaces, flues, etc., b. Ashes in metal containers. 4. Flammable: a. Stored in approved place, b. Safety cans used, c. Tanks, drums and cans in good order, d. No leaks. 5. Oils and paints: a. Stored in approved place b. No leaks, c. Drippings properly disposed of. 6. Combustible materials: Stored in approved bins or containers. 7. Oily rags and waste: a. All in approved metal receptacles, b. Disposed of regularly. 8. Gas: a. No leaks, b. Turned off when not in use. 9. Refuse: a. In approved containers, b. Dis posed of daily. 10. Lockers and closets: a. Kept neat, b. No ac cumulation of rubbish. 11. Fire fighting equipment; a. In place, b. Easily accessible c. In working order, d. Sprinkler valves open, e. Sprinkler heads un obstructed, f. Alarms in working order. TO PUT OUT A CLOTHING FIRE 1. DO NOT RUN—Running fans the flame. 2. If possible wrap yourself in a rug, blanket, portiere or woolen coat. Wrap it around your neck first. Drop to the floor and roll over slowly. 3. If there is nothing to wrap in, drop to the floor and roll over slowly. 4. Try not to inhale any of the flame. Put your left hand on right shoulder and right hand on left shoulder and pull arms against face for protection. 5. If there is water near at hand, douse your self with it and roll in the spilled water on the floor. If the clothing of another person takes fire, use similar measures. It may be necessary to trip or force him to lie down so you can roll him. Then if water is handy, apply it at once. VANT MASTER •«>: J> FIRE EXTINGUISHMENT Keep extinguish ers in the clear.
