CARDINALS ARE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS The Champagne Cardinals of the Ecusta Men’s Scratch League, took first place honors in the 18th Annual Western North Carolina Bowling Tourna ment held in Asheville recently. Of the 33 teams competing, the Cardinals emerged first with a total of 3,258 pins. Frank Israel had a score of 719, highest individual set score made in the tournament’s Team Events. Other scores: Straus, 677, Rogers, 626; Avery, 625; Green, 611. Charles Link, captain of the Cello-Mecks team (Ecusta Men’s Scratch League), and a member of the Barnette’s Machine Shop team (Brevard City League), took the top individual honors in the WNC Tournament. He took the Singles Event with the highest individual set score rolled by the 121 contestants—721 pins. He placed 11th in the Doubles Event with his partner Jack Bryson. These feats enabled Charles to take the All Events first prize with a total of 2028 pins. All Events included team, double and single scores. 13
