General Research Organization Of Olin Industries Consolidated With rapidly expanding research programs due to the growth of Olin Industries, Inc., the activi ties of the Company’s General Research Organi zation have been consolidated into four major categories under research executives, Dr. Fred Ol sen, Vice President for Research and Develop ment, announced. H. A. Bruson has been appointed Technical Ad visor to the Vice President for Research and De velopment; O. J. Swenson has been named Tech nical Director; T. C. Gerber has become Admin istrative Director and L. R. McClary, director of Product Commercialization. Other appointments follow: C. W. MacMullen, manager Organic Chemical Research; R. L. Wom- er, manager New Products Research and Assistant for Division Research, and B. deB. Darwent, man ager Physical Chemical Research. T. A. O’Brien was named contract assistant to the Administrative Director and Ralph Lamber- son was appointed Administrative Assistant. John M. Olin Elected Trustee Of Cornell John M. Olin, President of Olin Industries, Inc., was elected trustee of Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, by the Cornell Board meeting here to day. Mr. Olin, who succeeds the late Robert E. Treman of Ithaca, will serve until 1956. The late F. W. Olin was a Cornell trustee for 17 years until his death in 1951. Heatherly Fibre Warehouse The longest plank road in North Carolina was the one that ran from Salem to Fayetteville. It was 130 miles long and was completed in 1854. Building of plank roads came to a halt with the operation of railroads. Bath was at one time the capital of the province of North Carolina but it never was the capital of the state after North Carolina became a part of the union. EASTER BINGO PARTY! ECUSTA CAFETERIA, FOR EMPLOYEES AND THEIR WIVES OR HUSBANDS ONLY The Electrical Division of Olin Industries donated head lamps for the use of pages of the New York Public Library while the library lighting system was being rewired. The library’s 3,300,000 books are stored on some eighty miles of shelves. Dur ing the rewiring the time required to fetch a book from a blacked-out section rose from the normal seven minutes to almost forty . . . that is, until our Electrical Division made its gift of headlamps.
