"B” SHIFT CASTING By Thomas L. Hooper With spring here and warm weather, the fishing and con vertible fever is on. Bill Murray, Buddy Hoop er, Joe Barnett and Rupert Gordon decided on a fishing trip to Fontana. They decid ed to use 2 boats; Buddy and Rupert in one and Bill and Joe in the other one. Bill had Rupert’s lunch and Rupert had Bill’s gas; quite a combination. Since they were not fishing together, this proved to be very funny. Rupert went hungry while Bill and Joe were begging gas to get back to the boat dock. Earl Garren, after serving on the Jury, has ac quired the name of Judge "Colt” because of his harsh sentences. I’m certainly glad there was no case against me this time or I might have gotten some time. Richard Landreth says that he can take a joke as good as anyone. The only reason his face turned red when an April Fool joke was pulled on him was because he had forgotten it was April 1. I might add I had one pulled on myself, but no comment. Cecil Smith says he loves to ride but with the present price of gas and oil it proves to be very expensive. He decided the only way to get around this was to get it wholesale. He made a trip to Florida after his pump, brought his tank and had to make several long distance calls before he got it in. Now all that is worrying him is how long it will take to make back what he has spent. Fred McCall is interested in but one thing, free trip to Chicago. If he keeps turning in suggestions "Bus” Ayres is going to have to get an assistant. I understand Jesse Ashe is having a nose oper ation on our 5 days off. We all hope he gets along fine and can be back on graveyard with us. Well, that’s all for this month, so, so long until next month. SHEETING AND SHIPPING By Agnes Gash In the month of March we learn to our sorrow, what we put off today we need on tomorrow. Income tax didn’t seem to hurt this area too much. Freeman is sporting a new black Chevro let, and Lewis has a new turquoise Chevy with ivory top. Attention girls! Both these guys are single. Wonder what the connection is between Paris France, and Waddells passengers!! James McCall has decided to get ahead fast. He is now a merchant and miller as well as a drum operator. We are glad to welcome Perry Morgan to the boiler. Wonder why Callie and Bill Parris are so anx ious to see the bowling sheets. Bill could it be checking up on a certain young lady on Finishing B team? Speaking of bowling, our team lost fourth place by one pin. Tough luck, kids. There has been quite a lot of shopping going on lately. Becky went to Asheville, Jeanie to Greenville and Ruby and Mickey to Spindale and Forest City. We are sorry to loose Harold A. to Sliting. The shipping boys are wondering what hap pens to all their peanuts and potato chips. Charles your little boy must have "a powerful appetite.” Eula is learning to drive, look out Rusty! Cecil is really quite a fisherman, in a whole week he caught one tiny perch. Lorena’s little girl has had the mumps, and Ulyses’ baby has had the measles. On our sick list this month is Becky, Sal, Micky, Freeman and Giles. Lewis and Giles enjoyed a vacation this month. FILM OFFICE By Billie Hart and Guyma Fenwick Well, there was plenty candy and cigars around the office this month. The boys won over the girls though, two to one. R. L. Johnson and H. A. Kahn are proud fathers of the boys and J. S. Carpenter as equally proud of his girl. We wish to extend our heartiest congratula tions to R. S. Heller, R. F. Bennett, J. F. Keating, R. V. Pierce, W. F. Huffman, W. L. Hensley, R. J. Korstian, J. B. Sowell, D. H. Brownell, E. J. Koch, and T. R. Mitchell on their promotions. There were some changes in the girls too. lone Cordell is now secretary to Mr. Bennett, Lucille Siniard transferred to Technical Section as secre tary to Mr. Keating, and Bonnie Grose replaced Lucille in Traffic. We also have a new addition to the Steno graphic Pool—Faye Smith. Welcome to our happy little group, Faye. How many have seen George Yehling’s new toy as he calls it? To my way of thinking a Buick is a mighty expensive toy. We hear Gene Lovell bought a share in the Nash Company. Anyway, he recently traded for another one. Bill Norris must have gotten tired of walking Franklin Hill, because he’s been seen sporting a Dodge. Ann and J. C. Akins have recently moved into one of the Dixon Cottages. We’re all waiting for open house, Ann. We extend our deepest sympathy to Don Parker in the death of his father and Guyma Fenwick in the death of her grandfather. 22
