RURAL PROGRESS PROGRAM Sponsors of the Rural Progress Program and representatives of the six community clubs organ ized the Transylvania Community Development Council at a meeting in the Medical Center on June 24. This is the first organzation of its kind to be formed in the County. R. W. Shaffner, Assistant Director of the N. C. State College Extension Service, was the principal speaker. The group was welcomed by E. B. Gar rett, Industrial Relations Manager, and the re sponse was given by Mrs. T. R. Chastain, Jr., of the Balsam Grove Community Development Club. County Agent J. A. Glazener, presided at the meeting. Officers elected for the first year are; J. A. Glazener, Chairman; B. E. Keisler, Vocational Ag riculture teacher at Rosman, Vice Chairman; Mrs. The six persons shown at right participated in the organization program. They are, left to right: John I. Anderson, Mrs. T. R. Chastain, Jr., J. A. Glaze ner, E. B. Garrett, Freeman Hayes, R. W. Shoffner. Julia Westwood, secretary of the ASC in Transyl vania, Secretary; T. R. Chastain, President of the Balsam Grove Club, Treasurer; and John I. Ander son, Editor of the Transylvania Times, Reporter. Progress reports were given by representatives of the community clubs. Others participating in the program were Rev. John T. Neal, Pastor of the Little River Baptist Church, and Rev. Neal Mc- Glamery of Brevard College.
