DEPARTMENTAL NEWS FILM DIVISION -'— ■ ' "Ik" shift finishing By William L. Burrell It s news time again. Our reporter is absent so it falls my lot to make a report of the news. Grady Ashe is our new service operator and Calvin Greer is our new core cutter. We welcome both of you boys to our shift. It seems as if there has been a great deal of trad ing going on around here. J. A. Wilde traded his Plymouth for a Chevrolet and Paul McCoy traded his "Chevy” for a Ford. They both seem to be satisfied with their trades. Those taking vacations this month were Dallas Smith and Fred Warren. I didn’t get a report on them. Robert Hinkle was recently called for service in the Army. We miss having him with us. William Parris has just gotten back from his honeymoon. We wish you the best of luck, Wil liam. That just leaves five of us single boys on this shift. We are all available girls! Well, that s the news, so I will say so long until next month. "Q" SHIFT CHEMICAL BUILDING By Max McCracken & Fain Brooks After a long period of not writing we will try to start again. Poor old Glenn Barnwell is operating on second floor for a while. I know Glenn will do a fine job. Herb, what kind of bird doesn’t fly. Herb got caught for driving on the wrong side of the road the other day by "Bus”. John Sorrells and Vance Davis sent Herbert Hoover a birthday card this month. I asked Vance if he was attending the party. He told me he didn’t have the time. Fain Brooks is really talking up the fight with Charles and Rocky this time. Earl Lance took his vacation last week and built a garage. Earl, have you gone into the construc tion business.^ Claude Nicholson wrote to me the other day and asked me why we hadn’t written the news. Well we haven’t any excuse, Claude, but we will try to get it in every month. "Catfish” went fishing on his day off, but we don’t think he caught anything. Guess we better close or do something even if it is wrong. SHEETING AND SHIPPING By Marie Guinn We wish to congratulate James McCall on the arrival of a baby girl, born in the Transylvania Community Hospital on July 20. Patricia Ann weighed 8 pounds and 5 ounces. We welcome three new boys to this department this month. They are Austin Alexander, Paul Lance and Thomas McCall. These boys replace Delano Grady, and Thomas Heath, who transferred to the Slitting department. The ones enjoying vacations this month are Agnes, Tommie, Gwen, Sal, James and Don. Agnes and Gwen enjoyed their week of rest at home with their children. Sal was sick during her vacation. That isn’t such a nice way to spend it, is it, Sal? James stayed home while his wife was in the hos pital. Don* went to Myrtle Beach and we asked him what he did. He said he just looked. Lorena and her family camped out at White Pines for a week while she was having her floors redone. She also took a trip to Charleston, S. C., and brought back a beautiful white draw string bag for each one of the girls. It surely was nice of you, Lorena, and we all thank you very much. We borrowed Mickey and Wilmer from Cloth Cutting for a few days to help out in the rush. We also have Ruby back with us after a long stay in the Planning Office. Eula, Rusty and Nita went to Georgia for a family reunion. Seems the weather was a little too hot for them down there. James McCall is leaving Sunday for a two week training program with the 316th Field Artillery Battalion at Fort Jackson, S. C. It surely does get hot down there, James. Freedom had an unexpected vacation this month. They called him to serve on the jury. He said he couldn’t think of any way to get out of it. Tommie and Bob spent their vacation in Vir ginia and Washington. They both said they had a wonderful time. After their two weeks of rest, Bob left for service and is now stationed at Fort Jackson, S. C. Inez has been sick and out of work for the past few days. She is taking treatment before having her tonsils removed. We hope she is well and back with us in a few days. We wish to congratulate Paul Sitton on his en- gagernent to Shelby Jean Owen. Plans for die wedding are not complete. 19
