H. H. ISRAEL
AND
H. L. SOUTHER
TO RETIRE
SOUTHER
ISRAEL
Homer H. Israel and Harvey L. Souther, Sr.,
both of the Paper Division Finishing Department
will retire on September 1. They are eligible for
retirement under the Retirement Plan that is given
to all employees.
A native of Buncombe County, Mr. Israel came
to Transylvania some 45 years ago. He has been
at Ecusta since September 1, 1942, and will have
completed 12 years of continuous service with the
company.
He plans to retire to his 22 acre farm on Bre
vard R.F.D. 2. Two of his three sons, Frank and
Ray, are Ecusta employees.
Mr. Israel is a member of the Woodmen of the
World and the Mt. Moriah-Calvert Baptist Church.
Mr. Souther has been employed since October
9, 1939. A native of Henderson County, he moved
to Transylvania in 1912.
Last year he was Pastor of four Baptist Churches
in the County, aside from his duties at Ecusta.
Since he came to Transylvania County he has been
the Pastor of the Blue Ridge Church for 16 years,
and the Dunn’s Rock, Green River, and Cedar
Mountain Churches for several years.
Mr. Souther’s plans are incomplete at present,
except that he plans to continue in the ministry,
since he will have more time to devote to Church
work.
The Souther’s have four children—three sons
and one daughter. George is employed in the Film
Division and Harvey, Jr., in the Main Office.
They now live at Pisgah Forest, but plan to
move to a small farm in the near future.
CHARLES BREWER TO WORK AND ATTEND SCHOOL IN
ST. LOUIS
Charles B. Brewer of the Accounting Depart
ment is leaving Ecusta this month to take a job
with the United States Defense Corporation plant
at St. Louis, Missouri. This plant is operated by
Olin Industries, Inc.
This all came about as a result of Charles’ de
side to further his education. It so happened that
St. Louis University has night classes, and that
Olin had an opening in the St. Louis plant. After
taking his vacation, he will report to the Products
Inventory department and shortly thereafter to the
University. He will study accounting, and it will
take four years to complete the course.
Before coming to Ecusta in 1950, Charles was a
student at Brevard College for one year and at
Blanton’s Business College for 18 months.
Charles, a native of Concord, N. C., is married
to the former Gaynelle Patterson. Mrs. Brewer and
their 14 months old son will join him in St. Louis
later this year.
