ECUSTA BOWLING LEAGUES ORGANIZED Representatives from 24 men’s bowling teams met Wednesday, September 1, in the Medical Cen ter and organized a 24-team Handicap League for the 1954-55 season. The following Friday, September 3, representa tives from 10 women’s teams met in the Medical center and formulated plans for the organization of a 12-team Women’s League. The group met again on September 10 and completed arrange ments for the formation of the league. David Sams was elected president of the men’s league for 1945-55. Carrol Fletcher will serve as vice-president and Fritz Merrell as secretary-treas- urer. President of the Women’s League for 1954-55 will be Margaret Head. Wilma Henson was elect- TEN COMMANDMENTS OF GUN SAFETY Hunting season is here again, and, in the inter est of safety, the following "Ten Commandments” are being listed. Disregard of even one of these common-sense rules can mean the difference be tween a happy hunting trip and a trip to the "Hap py Hunting Grounds.” 1. Treat every gun with the respect due a loaded gun. This is the first rule of gun safety. 2. Guns carried into camp or home, or when otherwise not in use, must always be unloaded and taken down or have actions open; guns always should be carried in cases to the shooting area. 3. Always be sure barrel and action are clear of obstructions, and that you have only ammuni tion of the proper size for the gun you are carry ing. Remove oil and grease from chamber before firing. 4. Always carry your gun so that you can con trol the direction of the muzzle, even if you stumble; keep the safety on until you are ready to shoot. 5. Be sure of your target before you pull the trigger; know the identifying features of the game you intend to hunt. 6. Never point a gun at anything you do not want to shoot; avoid all horseplay while handling a gun. 7. Unattended guns should be unloaded; guns and ammunition should be stored separately be yond reach of children and careless adults. ed vice-president and Ann Akins, secretary-treas- urer. Both leagues voted to begin their play during the week of September 27, and to operate on a 22- week schedule. The Women’s League will bowl on Monday nights with six teams bowling at 6:30 P. M. and the remaining six teams starting at 9:00 P. M. The Men’s League teams will bowl on Wednes day and Thursday nights, with 12 teams bowling on Wednesday and the remaining 12 on Thursday. The Men’s League will also operate on the two shift per night schedule. Copies of the schedules and league rules have been distributed to the team captains for further distribution to the individual team members. SOFTBALL PLAYOFFS UNDER WAY The Ecusta Softball League’s post-season play offs got under way Friday, September 3, and after three weeks of play has passed the half-way mark. The 'A’ Shift Control team and the Cello-Won ders are leading the way with a record of 11 wins each and no losses. Listed below are the results of the first round of play in the double-elimination tournament. Final results of the play-offs will be published in the October issue of The Echo. (This allows time for two other infielders to handle the ball.) 8. Never climb a tree or fence or jump a ditch with a loaded gun; never pull a gun toward you by the muzzle. 9. Never shoot a bullet at a flat, hard surface or the surface of water; when at target practice, be sure your backstop is adequate. 10. Avoid alcoholic drinks before or during shooting. 10
