career skelches of
the new Officers of
Olin Mathieson Chemical
Corporation:
SPENCER T. OLIN
Spencer T. Olin, director of Olin Mathieson
Chemical Corporation, grew up with Olin Indus
tries, Inc., and played an important part in its ex
pansion. In his 33 years with the enterprise he
has participated in all aspects of its affairs.
His wide knowledge of the Olin operations was
gained from his experience successively as works
manager, sales manager, secretary, treasurer, vice-
president, and with the formation in 1945 of Olin
Industries, as first vice-president.
A marksman and hunter, Mr. Olin made the
highest score, 970 out of 1,000 targets, in the
1932 Grand American Handicap. Like his father
and brother, he is a graduate of Cornell Univer
sity and has a degree in mechanical engineering.
He has been active in Alton community affairs,
and in 1950 received the Alton Civic Award given
by the Order of deMolay.
In addition to having been an officer, a director,
a member of the executive committee of Olin In
dustries, and an officer or director of Olin sub
sidiary and affiliated companies, Mr. Olin is a
director of the Illinois Bell Telephone Company,
Laclede Steel Company, St. Louis Union Trust
Company, First National Bank and Trust Com
pany, Alton, Illinois, and the Illinois State Bank
of East Alton.

RUSSELL R. CASTEEL
Russell R. Casteel, vice president of Olin Math
ieson Chemical Corporation has been connected
with Olin Industries since 1936.
A graduate of the University of Missouri with
a degree in liberal arts in 1924 and a law degree in
1927, Mr. Casteel first practiced law in St. Louis
and was counsel for Stifel Nicolaus and Company,
Inc. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, honorary
scholastic fraternity.
Mr. Casteel joined the Western Cartridge Com
pany as corporation counsel and was elected as
sistant secretary in 1942. He was elected secre
tary of Olin Industries in 1944 when it was formed
by the merger of Western Cartridge Company and
the Olin Corporation and was elected a director
in 1946.
N. H. COLLISSON
N. H. Collisson, vice president for operations
of Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation, is re
sponsible for the operation of the Film, Paper,
Forest Products and Electrical Divisions, which
also were his responsibility for Olin Industries,
Inc.
A native of Philadelphia and a graduate of
Swarthmore College, Mr. Collisson was engaged
in civil engineering for 16 years. He spent five
years in the Navy during World War II as an
engineering officer advancing from lieutenant to
captain.
Mr. Collisson is a former United States Coal
Administrator. He was special assistant to the
Secretary of the Interior in 1947 and for two years
was Chief of Mission, Economic Cooperation Ad
ministration to Germany.
Appointed general manager of Olin’s Cello
phane Division (now the Film Division), in 1951,
Mr. Collisson became vice president for operations
in 1953.
