"B" SHIFT CASTING By Thomas Hooper Here it is December and Christmas nearing every day. Although we have had snow and bad weather, several of the fellows have taken their vacations. Fred McCall took a trip out West with his family and we understand he became quite a cowboy. Cecil Smith took his, going to California with his wife. The fact that he went to California is quite a thing, but when he came back driving a new 1955 Pontiac, we did not know what to think. Carl Watson took his vacation trying to get a deer, but the way we understand it all he killed was time. He says he had a wonderful time though. Next I would like to write about some of the fellows’ experience at deer hunting. John bought a new rifle for the occasion, but after hunting for 3 days and not getting a shot, I believe he would have been just as well off with a "B-B”. Elmer Baker bought a new $75 scope for his SHEETING & SHIPPING By Marie Guinn We welcome James Wilson, Bill McCall, Ben Ross, A1 Nichols, Bill Carland, and Jerry Bedding- field to this department. They replace Roy Alli son, Roger Whitesides, Joe Henderson, and Thom as House, who transferred to Slitting. We hope all you boys will like your new jobs. Lorena took her daughter Pat, to Florida on va cation this past week. They did quite a bit of sightseeing at Daytona and St. Augustine. They both enjoyed it very much and all the girls en joyed the fruit she brought back to us. Lewis is taking part of his vacation now. We will hear from him when he gets back next week. Several of the boys have been deer hunting since the season opened up, but none of them got one. Seems there wasn’t too many around this time. Better luck next time. We have had to work a couple of Saturdays recently but we don’t think any one minded too much. That extra money sure does help towards Christmas. Several of the girls have been going places, do ing their Christmas shopping. Most of them have most of it done by now. That is about all the news this time. Every one be on their best behavior and maybe Santa Claus will visit you. This is Sheeting and Shipping signing off, wish ing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. rifle so he could see to shoot better. The way we hear it though, the only way it helped him was to see the "heads of the doe”. R. Landreth said he thought after buying his rifle he would like deer hunting, but after 4 days on the "Wilderness Hunt” I believe he would sell it very cheap. Even though most of us had bad luck at hunt ing there was still some game brought in. "Dump”, our shift electrician, had the best luck —bringing in an 8 point buck he got in "Sher wood”. Jesse Ashe brought in one from "Standing In dian” and says that he is the only man who is able to dress a deer the same time he shoots it. Although I did not get a deer myself, my wife, "Katie”, got one on the "North Main Hunt”. Rabbit hunting goes along with deer hunting each fall of the year and we hear that J. Bradley has been having very good luck with his beagles. Although they like running cows, I hear they can race deer or rabbit to death. Well that’s all for this month, so the boys on "B” shift, along with myself hope each of you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy Safe New Year. PLANNING OFFICE Pisgah Forest, N. C. Santa Claus 123 Toyland Ave. North Pole Dear Santa: Christmas has rolled around again and we in Planning are again asking you for a few "little” things. Here’s our list: Jency wants a self-operating vacuum cleaner. Barbara Hull wants the latest edition of "How to get Up in the Morning”. Lu needs some means of transportation within the office, since she has a great deal of walking to do. Suggestion—a scooter, similar to Godfreys. Viola Poteet is new in our office, but Santa, we would love to see you make her happy on Christ mas morning. We know you cant bring Doug home from Korea for Christmas, so just bring her a long, long letter. Willie, like Lu, needs a scooter to carry him from Planning to Shipping about 50 times a day. Maybe you’d better bring a supply of fuel for it, too. Barbara Talley isn’t going to be choosy this year, but if you see anything you think she might like—for heaven’s sake—bring him. We have another new girl, namely Betty Wil lingham, who wants a record player. Please bring her one so she can play the records her boyfriend will give her. Santa, believe it or not, Henson isn’t going to 18
