C., December, 1951 WEEKIV ASSEMBlt PKIUMS GIVEII FOR A-B-C $TUD[IIT$ CLUB EVENTS By RUTH REID One of the most popular clubs at Asheville-Biltmore College is the Monogram Club. Members spon sored the election of a football queen. They are now carrying on various campaigns to buy jackets. Sigma Mu Pi, honorary math fra ternity, took ten new members into its organization. A hayride was given by the Clas sical Co-Eds in October. John Young was elected president of the International Relations Club. Other officers are Joan Glover, vice- president; Jane Hyslup, secretary- treasurer; and Annie Yarborough, public relations officer. The Weepers and the Business Club took a combined tour through the Asheville Citizen-Times build ing. The Glee Club is under the direc tion of Dot Drake, with Mary Kay Baber as accompanist. Officers of the Business Club in clude Frances Penland, president; Nadine Allen, vice-president; and Nell Crowell, secretary-treasurer. Editor-in-chief of the 1952 Sum mit is Dot Drake. The Student Council sponsored the “Miss Buncombe County High School of 1951” contest. Jim Self is the new president of the A. B. Libbers Radio Club. Mary Higgins Orr was named vice-presi dent; Jeanne Sluder, secretary; Joe Patelidas, treasurer; and John Young, press agent. Asheville-Biltmore College stu dents have been privileged to at tend many interesting and varied assembly programs this semester. The most outstanding of the weekly programs are listed below. Dr. Pierce told about his trip to Afghanistan. He spoke on the cus toms and language of the people, and displayed various souvenirs. A talent show was given, at which Mary Kay Barber introduced the five participants. The mixed octet sang two spirituals. W. A. Egerton, director of indus trial relations of the American Enka Corporation, discussed responsibili ties in connection with American rights. Christmas is a day set aside for paying tribute to a small Babe born many years ago, and who grew up to become King of Kings.
