The Barker ETC Recognizing Excellent Teachers V Each year, the UNCA community selects seven faculty members to recognized for teaching excellence. The Teaching Awards Committee needs your assistance in identifying those teachers who have demonstrated teaching excellence for the 2002-2003 awards. Please take some time and make your nomination(s). You may e-mail your nominations to anengelen@unca.edu or yearout@unca.edu. To make a nomination please send the following: The faculty person’s name Two sentences explaining why you have nominated this person Then send your nomination(s) to the e-mail addresses listed above. You may make as many nominations as you wish. However, please make only one nomination per e-mail message. The committee asks that you make your nominations before May 15, 2002. FREE STUDENT PLAYS! Student-directed plays will be performed this Friday and Saturday, March 22 and 23 at T:30pm in Carol Belk Theatre. Tickets are free, and any donations will go to Helpmate, P-FLAC, and our-VOICE. The plays include "Stop Kiss," directed by Angela Koon, the story of a how two women respond when one is beaten up in an anti- gay hate crime. The other, "What's Wrong With Angry," directed by Terhan McDaniel, concerns the problems of being a gay male in high school. Both Angela and Terhan are senior drama students and excellent directors. Come check them out! $500 Service- Learning Scholarships Available! UNCA’s Key Center for Service-Learning, dedicated to helping faculty and students connect learning in the classroom with serving in the community, will award several scholarships for 2002-2003 to students who best exemplify the Center’s motto: Learning to Serve, and Serving to Learn Requirements: Enrollment in UNCA Academic Course (2001-2002) which involves service learning. 2. Clear evidence that volunteer activity in the community has enhanced that course. To qualify as a Key Scholar candidate, the following must be submitted to the Key Center for Service-Learning (RH 116, CPO 2421) by Monday.
