The M-cuf lot adjacent to Owen Hall has been designated a "Conference Lot" that will provide special parking for guests using the Owen Con- - ference Center and other facilities on campus. When not needed for this purpose the lot will be open to fa culty/staff and students. Fort)[-two spaces in firont of Owen Hall along University Heights have been redesigned as faculty/staff spaces. Fa- culty/staff parking is now available on both sides of University Heights in this area. As weather permits, these spaces will be lined and properly signed identi fying these changes. Another major change in our parking policy eliminates the distinction between resident and commuter student park ing areas, therefore, students can now legally park in any student zone. All announcements for each Thursday’s paper must be received by Monday of that same week at 6 p.m. THE PAUL DOUGLAS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: An eligible student must be a United States citizen admit ted to enroll or enrolled in an eligible institution of hig her education located in North Carolina that offers a program of instruction lead ing to at least an associate degree. To be eligible for consideration, a student must have ranked in the top 10 percent of his or her high school graduating class and, if in college, must have an academic average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. An outstanding record of leadership and ser vice in extracurricular ac tivities is a prerequisite. Because of high interest pen alty for failing to fulfill the teaching commitment requir ed, only students who are certain teaching is their ca reer choice should apply. The Woman’s Research and Education Institute (WREl) offers a fellowship program that places graduate students in congressional offices and on strategic committee staffs. A fellow works 30 hours a week as a legislative aid on policy issues affecting wo men. In 1988-89 there will be at least nine awards, po ssibly more depending upon available funding. Fellows receive a stipend of $9000 for the academic year, August 1, 1988 through April 30. 1989. WREI will also reimburse fellows up to a maximum of $1500 for the most of six hours of tuition at their home institutions directly related to the fel lowship experience. THE PIEDMONT TRIAD AD VERTISING FEDERATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Any student meeting our qualifications with permanent home residence in Davidson, Forsyth, Guilford, Randolph, Stokes, or Yadkin counties and attending a public or private institution in the state of North Carolina in eligible. The student must also be a rising junior or senior during the 1988/1989 school year. There will be two awards given in the a- mount of $2500 each. This program is designed to sup port higher education in the field of advertising, while at the same time, honoring the scholastic achievement of students pursuing an adverti sing or communication related course of study in North Carolina. Job Description: Mentors will make early con tact, either by letter, or by phone, with a group of new students in the spring of 1988. Each mentor will be assigned a group of ten or fewer new students usually with the same major interest area. Mentors will meet their new students when they get on campus in the fall. They will show them around, help them get settled and answer ques tions about what it is like to be a student at UNCA. Men tors will be a contact person throughout the semester. VERMONT STUDENT ASSISTANCE GRANTS: Full-Time or Part-Time Grants are now available for out-of-state students fi'om Vermont. Incentive Grants for Vermont residents for the 1987-1988 academic year ranged from $200 to $3,500; Part-Time Student Grants ranged from $100 to $2,290. In addition to the grants available, the Vermont Stu dent Assistance Corporation administers the Vermont Gua ranteed Student Loan and the Parent Loan for Undergrad uate Student Programs.
