TRIP: SOLO Wilderness First Aid
TIME/DATE:Feb. 2-3. 2002
The S.O.L.O. Wilderness Medicine School will be coming
to UNCA in early February with its Wilderness First Aid
Course. This class is a must for anyone who regularly
spends time in the wilderness. Accidents can and do
happen on ropes courses, along country roads, or in the
backcountry, and too often members of a group are not
capable of dealing with the emergency. Not only does
this lead to improper care of the patient, it also
endangers the entire group. Studies have shown that
many recreational accidents are preventable, and
improper care of trauma can compound even the
simplest of injuries. SOLO provides training courses
which stress preparedness and prevention; training
which encompasses all phases of off-road emergencies;
training which focuses on extended care issues on pro
longed transport situations. This course consists of 16-
hours covering topics ranging from preparation and
prevention to assessment and treatment.
