UNDERSTANDING
ISRAEL
The Humanities Program and Center for
Jewish Studies will host three days of
lectures and discussions on "Understanding
Israel" February 2-4. A variety of topics,
including the history of Zionism, contempo
rary Hebrew literature and ecology, will be
discussed by leading scholars. The series
will wrap up with the 2002 Phyllis Freed
Soiled Memorial Lecture on "Israel and Its
Neighbors Then and Now: Revisionist
History and the Quest for Legitimacy in the
Middle East Today" by author Eric Meyers.
