The band played in Alumni Hall in the Highsmith Center last Thursday. “The show felt amazing,” said Greg Norris, lead singer and saxophonist for the band. "There were several moments of euphoria, and it was awe some. I had a most magnificent hour and a half.” The band said they would at .some point like to get signed on to a record label, but they are not worried about it happening any time .soon becau.se they have other priorities and obligations to live up to first. “We are definitely trying to get signed. It .seems like there are a lot of potential, and I’m really excited. I’d rather not be signed until we finish up here though,” said Cacey Peters, bassist. “It’s kind of working out very nicely because we’ve all got a little bit of time left at college to finish up degrees. I don’t want that conflicting with me walking across the stage.” They were pleased with the Thursday night’s show, and they were excited about the turnout. “The room acoustics were a little hard to get used to at first, but once we got u.sed to it everything came togeth er really nicely and everybody really started to get into it,” Peters said. “It was really great.” Da.shvara’s target audience is any one who likes to dance. According to the band, they were amazed at how many people came out and supported them by dancing. “It was great watching everybody in the crowd rock out,” said Noah Wilson, guitarist. “They were rocking out harder than we were.” The show felt amazing. The band gives the music, but it wouldn’t be a show with out all the energy that people give back,” They have a couple of major con certs coming up that will be free to students and will be worth while, including one in Lipinsky Auditorium on Feb. 24th, according to Wilson. “The 24 show is definitely going to be free and we’re probably going to do two .sets,” Peters .said. “It’s going to be about three hours long, and there’ll be an intermission. That’s what to look forw^d to. We’re also playing on April 14 in Lipinsky. They’re both Friday shows, and we’re also playing for NCUR in Highsmith.” The band name Dashvara comes from Buddhism, and is closely related to the way in which the band tries to reach their audience. “Dashvara is from a Buddhist 66 99 iROVER - Staff f-hotographeb Da.shvara members, left to right, Cacey Peters, Noah Wilson, Greg Norris and Joshua “Funk” Harrison, The band played in Alumni Hall in the Highsmith center on Feb, 2, and hope to have more free concerts in the upcoming future in an effort to increase popularity and release a CD, The hand gives the music, hut it wouuldn’t he a show without all the energy that people give hack. It’s a lot to work up to, but we’re working on it.” Each band member have had some experience with music in their pasts. “My family has always had music in it,” said Joshua Harrison, drummer. “My dad had a band, and we just always had music playing and always singing and dancing. I actually started playing drums when I was 15, so it was a lot later than most. Since I’ve been here in Asheville, I played in a bar band called Crucial, but then I got together with Dashvara, and it was good because we got to play our own music. It’s much better than playing other people’s music.” “I started playing guitar in middle school, but then my hands got too big so I started playing bass,” Peters said. “My teacher showed it to me, and he slapped it. I also came to Asheville for music so that’s when I started hitting it really hard.” The band records every show they play, and they are working on compil ing a set list for a CD. “We have stuff from the studio i stuff from live shows, and I guess we’re trying to make a compilation oi all of it right now,” Norris said. We’v, got the content, we’ve just got to fig ure out which ones we want to put or a CD.” You are invited to the.
