NEWS Language day CONTINUED FROM PAGE 4 Belza presented a song from a Japanese band. “I will be presenting a song from BABYMETAL, which is a new band formed in Japan. The song is called ‘KARATE,’” Belza said. “I am doing this for a club and in support of a class. Dr. Li from Asian studies in Owen asked me to perform anything, so I am performing one of the popular songs they made.” While some students served cultural food, others recited poetry, performed skits and played music. The courtyard shared cultural en gagement with numerous students throughout the day. “We’re just showing off our stuff and what it is we are doing here at UNCA as far as languages and cultures go,” Bettencourt said. Assistant Professor of Spanish Juan Sanchez Martinez helped create post ers and invite students to the event. He said he hoped students would take into consideration the importance of languages. “I feel that this event is a beautiful moment to celebrate diversity in a time where some politicians don’t want to do it,” Sanchez said. “I hope the stu dents take away this idea that languag es are the doors to new worlds.” Students perform an excerpt x>f ‘Antigone.’ ?- - 12-'3 PM r h' I-'- .-i.'
