Page 4 Brevard College, Brevard, North Carolina, Wednesday, October, 2 1935. Brevard and Biltmore in Scoreldss Tie Biltmore makes most first clowns but gains less ground Brevard Makes only Threat at Goal Last Saturday Brevard was unable to overcome the Biltmore College ele ven. For the most part the “game was a kicking duel between “Bad“ Jim Wright, of Biltmore, and Davis and Clayton, of Brevard, with honors about even at the finish. THE STATISTICS Flit. Brevard First downs 3 1 Grains from scrimmage 58 86 Losses from scrimmage 28 84 Passes attempted 8 2 Passes completed 5 0 Gains OB passes 35 0 Passes intercepted by 1 1 Fumbles 7 3 Own fumbles recov. by 4 1 Penalties (total dist.) 5 20 Number of punts 12 12 Av. distance of punts 35 36 The only real scoring threat of the struggle was made by the Tornado when Biltmore lost the ball by a fum ble on the Biltmore 11-yard line just as the first period closed. Brevard failed to gain in two line tries, and Davis’ pass was intercepted by Brank, Biltmore fullback, on his own five-yard stripe. He carried it to his own 14 from where a punt sent his team out of danger. Brevard Gains Most While Biltmore chalked up three first downs to one for Brevard, the latter eleven gained the most ground from scrimmage and at times appeared the better team by a good margin. But when a yard or two meant a first down the fast charging Bulldog line prevented an advance. The final two periods resulted in a nip-and-tuck battle in or near mid field, with neither team able to make much headway into opposing territory. The entire line played good defensive ball. Blocking on offence showed promise, but the lack of experience and practice kept effective yardage distance down. The Backs of the Tornado worked hard but were unable to gain consist ently enough to score. Several Backs show promise of becoming ground gainers in future games. Gaston, call ing his first game from the end posi tion, did well. He has many of the necessary qualifications of a good quar terback. Brevard was supported by a lively band of students who yelled with might for a victory. The team played hard and served notice to opponents that they expect to fight and win.
