Page 4 Brevard College, Brevard, North Carolina, Friday, November 8, 1935. Brevard Wins from Belmont Brevard College Tornado defeated Belmont Abbey last Saturday by a score of 19-2 to remain in the undefet ed ranks. The Blue and White Jamesmen open ed the game by kicking to the Catho lics, and after one play the Abbey kick ed back to mid-field. The Tornado took the ball on their 49 yard line and within twelve plays they had scored their first touchdown of the evening' The marker came when Ed Clayton shot Walter Clayton a short pass in the end zone on the twelfth play of the drive that started in mid-field. After this touchdown the Tornado showed a let-up, and the Abbey grad ually gained on exchange of punts dur ing the first quarter. Near the close of the quarter the Abbey staged a drive that was good for fifty yards with a 35 yard run included. Opening the second quarter the Bel mont team passed on the Brevard 10 yard line, and Ed Clayton jumped in to the air. to intercept it. On the first play after the interception, Ed Clayton attempted a punt which was blocked by Brennon; the ball bounded over the end zone automatically giving the Ab bey team a safety and their only 2 points of the day. The remainder of the quarter was a kicking duel, with the ball remaining in Brevard territory most of the time. Throughout the third quarter nei ther threatened, since no breaks came as a result of a kicking duel; the ball, however, was played in Abbey terri tory. Toward the close of the final pe riod Thompson intercepted a Belmont pass in midfield, and from there the Tornado started a drive that ended with their second touchdown. On the scoring play Davis carried the ball over on a line play. Davis also took a pass from Ed Clayton for the point. In the closing minute or so the Jamesmen scored again, after another drive from the Abbey 40 yard line, when Frady took a pass in the end zone. The weather was extremely hot for this season of the year, and the Bre vard team showed that they weren’t playing ball in mountain climate. Only three substitutions were made by Coach James. Social Planned At a joint meeting of the social com mittees of the Cliosophic and Euter- pean Literary Societies last night it was decided to have a party in the dining room of West Hall, Saturday evening, November 16th. Details for the affair will be worked out later. Snappy Sport Wear for College Girls is our Hobby. The Nobby Shoppe Brevard’s Only Exclusive Shoppe for Women One night in the girls’ parlor Pat” Shackford was directing the college group in some games. She said, “Now we want to see who can make the ugliest face.” After they all tried together, “Pat” turned to Ed Clayton. “Ed, I’ve decided to give the prize to you.” He quickly replied, “Pardon me, but I wasn’t playing.” Ulrich Gibbs: “Did you ever take a mud bath for your rheumatism?” Warren Harrelson: “No, but I played in a football game.” An old Weaver student: Miss Smith, what ever became of that pretty canary Miss Sam gave you?” Miss Smith: “ I had to feed him to the cat. Miss Hayes set him on the radio, and he learned static.” John Hoyle says that all he wants is a chance to express himself. Fine, where to? Dixon says those girls in West Hall have their “ups and downs,” but none of them have as many as I did to-night. I had the aisle seat at the movies. Subscriptions Past Due By a unanimous vote the student subscriptions were put on a club basis. It is absolutely necessary that every student pay his subscrip tion. Up to this time about a hun dred have failed to pay for the first quarter. This is a small amount for each of these hundred students; but collectively it is a large amount for The Clabion. All of you have been receiving the paper. If you have not already paid, PLEASE PAY your club leader at once. Maaon Murphy, Circulation Manager. Patronize our Advertisers as they are reliable firms. Of rare distinction in this display is a moth that was hatched from a cocoon spun by a caterpillar that was found in front of West Hall last fall. Also there is a fly that looks much like a bumblebee and one that closely resembles a yellow- jacket. Included in the exhibit are dra gon flies, adult doodle bugs, moths and butterflies, beetles, true bugs, true flies, and wasps. Mr. Dendy welcomes all to drop by and see the show cases now on display. Football Schedule Attend All the Home Games Date Tpam Place B. C. Freshmen Hold Meeting At the chapel period on Wednes day the freshman class held a regu lar meeting with practically all members present. President Ro gers opened the meeting and pre sided over the entire session. After the regular opening pro cedure the class voted that each member would pay to the treasurer one dollar by the end of the first quarter as dues for the entire year. A resolution which was drawn up by a committee for that purpose was accepted, and each member of the class is to receive a copy in the near future. Because of lack of time there were several important business matters that had to be deferred until another meeting.
