Tornado Quint Downs All- Stars, but Loses to Enka Rosman Defeated 34 to 24 * The Brevard Tornado got a- way to a flying start on the night of January 14 by defeating a scrappy, but doomed to die, group of Rosman All-Stars by a score of 34-24; while in the second game the Brevard second, third, and fourth teams won over Rosman High 35-27. The Tornadoes started the game in a fashion indicated by their name and were leading at the end of the first quarter 14-4, but the final whistle stopped a rally by the All-Stars which the Brevard team seemed unable to check. Audrey, freshman center, showed up in great form by scor ing 17 points and by his work under the l>asket. Patton, Davis, and Wright, stellar players of last year’s squad, showed up well. Rogers, another freshman, played a nice floor game. Still there is plenty of room for im provement by all. The second game o;f the night between the Brevard second, third, and fourth teams and the Rosman High proved to be a very good game. Rosman made a great numbter of their points from foul shots, while Brevard scored mostly on field goals, made by their fast-moving for wards. In the preliminary fray the Brevard “B” team won a decisive victory from the Enka “B” team 44-29. The Varsity tied the score several times during the game but wereun able to get ahead of the strong Enka team. The end of the game saw the Brevard basketeers within six points of victory but still plugging away at the hoop. Gudger, of Enka, was high scorer in the Varsity game with 13 points and played the biggest part in Enka’s victory, Whiteside and Rog ers were high scorers for Brevard with 7 points rach. The Brevard “B” team took the lead at the first of their game anb increased the lead as the game went on. Eldridge scored 17 points to become high scorer of the night. We also wonder why instead of tossing the ball up at center after a foul shot the referee let the opposite team have the ball out df bounds under their goal. We wonder if the referee just didn't know what he was doing or whether we don’t know the latest rules of the game. To enjoy any athletic game we must know most of the technical points; so why don’t we read the sport page in our newspapers, or better still, why not borrow a rule book and see why they do certain things. Now let all become well- infornied on the subject before the next game here, so we wil know what is happening and so that we may get all there is to be gotten out of it.
