Basketball Rules SeveralTulcte ih-the game of basketball are unknown to most of us, the sport fans, the'refore we do not receive the greatest enjoyitient from the game. The following rules and penalties are some of the newest, consequently the ones we are ihost likely not to know. 1. No other players are permitted in side the foul circle during a toss-up on the foul line. Penalty: Out of bounds to opponeiits. 2. No player of the offensive team is permitted to remain in the free-throw circle or lane with or without the ball for ihore than 3 seconds. Explanation: To prevent congestion and fouls under the basket. Penalty: Out of bounds to the opponents. 3. After a free throw is successful, the opponents are awarded the ball at the end line. Explanation: Speeding up the game by saving toss-ups at the center. 4. The offensive team must advance the ball past the center court within 10 seconds after obtaining possession of it. Explanation: To prevent freezing of the ball. Penalty: Loss of ball to oppon ents out of bounds. .5. Tapping the ball before it reaches its height. Penalty: Loss of ball to op ponents out of bounds. “When two teams are evenly matched in ability, the winner will in most cases be the team with the most initative.” —Coach R. E. James. The Brevard team had no trouble in subduing the Asheville team and started oti with a goal in the first few seconds-of the game with Ardrey on the shooting end. The Tornadoes were leading at the end of the first half with a score of 18-9. They came back in the second half with the same sharp shooting, and the score had mounted to 39-24 when the final whistle blew. The College boys were in the best form of the year and showed the crowd just what they could do when they were right. Rogers of Brevard was high scorer of the night with 11 points to his credit. Patton scored 10 and Ardrey 6 in the last half. Ros^ was high scorer for the ■*Y” scoring 6 points. From My Window By Helen Avett These things I see from out My window at the close Of day. Answer: It makes lassies out of (mo) lasses, Brevard Overcohies Enka 30-23 The Brevard Tornadoes won over the American Enka basketeers on the local court Tue day night in the fastest gamer of the year by a score of 30-23. The game started with a bang and kept up all the rest of the playing time. The scoring started when Ardrey drew first blood in the opening minute with a. field goal. The score was neck to neck during the first half, with both teams leading at intervals but usually tied. The first half ended with the local boy^^ going hard but unable to break the 14- 14 tie. In the second half the Brevard team came back at even a faster pace and drew out in the lead. The game ended with Brevard on the winning end of a 30-23 score. The game was the fastest played on the local court this season. It was fea tured by the playing of Lindsey, one- armed forward, who was high scorer for Enka with 8 points. Ardrey and Pat ton were high scorers for Brevard with the score of 9 points each. Davis, Rog ers, and Whitesides played good floor games to keep their opponents’ score down. Goslin played a nice game for the visitors. Wright, veteran guard, was out of the game with a sprained ankle susfcaia- ed in another game. The play is “Skidding^’, a comedy in three acts. It is under the direction of Miss Smith. She states that the play will be given toward the last of the month, probably February 21.
