DODGE & PLYMOUTH VISIT GAITHER’S GRILL “Good Food Means Good Health” { What’s Your I Opinion? I By FRANCES SLOOP What do you think of the im provements being made on the administration building? BURT McCRACKEN: “If they repair the front before the rest of the building falls in, it’s O. K.” BETTY MELLARD: “I think they were needed but the money they are using there could be used elsewhere, namely, a boys’ dorm.” BOB SETZER: “I don’t see any sense in it. They should tear it down and start all over again.” CHESTLEY BURTON; “They just didn’t go far enough.” ROOSEVELT CARTRET: “I think it’s really silly to waste money on it. Instead of using it for that little bit, they ought to apply it to the building fund.” CLAUDE HICKS: “I’m in favor of spending some more money for improvements around here.” MAXmE MANN: “I think it’s a fine thing because it makes our typing room lighter.” JACK PRINCE: “They didn’t do anything. All they did was fix it so it wouldn’t fall off and hit someone' in the head. It' looked better the way it was. I don’t con sider it an improvement myself.” NEWELL BUSH: “If they’re go ing to replace the ad building any time soon, it’s a foolish improve ment.” ELLIE PARKER; “It’s not worth it.” SARA MOSELEY; “I think they should put the money into building a new one.” BRUCE JAMERSON: “I think they made a mess out of the yard, but I’m sure the building will be pretty.” BILL JOYCE: “I don’t think they’re making any improvements. They’re only tearing down, which looks terrible.” BOB LEVI: “I think it’s going to be very nice if they get it fixed up.” —Support the WSSF— Musical Show (Continued From Page One) Workers club are canvassing the student body for contributions and it-has been disclosed that those students who cannot, afford to give at the present may make a pledge and contribute later. Earlier this year, Miss Rhoda Thomas spoke to the student body and helped organize the drive here. This week the campaign was started by a series of talks by Miss Ruth Taylor of Marion, and next week Frank Roberts wiU deliver I tell you Ray, you and Polly are going to have to find some darker corners if you expect to be avoided by Mrs. Pylant. It seems that Walter Owens has finally been snowed. How did you do it Frances? Tudie, don’t you ever get tired of waiting and waiting for- “Flash” Hyre to come and eat the meal you have waiting for him? P. R., from the look on your face the other night you don’t seem to care much for these “girl breaks” —especially when you are dancing with Jack!! Bill Huntley says ^ that time seems to stand still when he is with Maria. His watch thinks so anyway. Seems as J;hough Betty Hower ton is playing the field. Keep up the good work, Betty; you’ll get yourself a man yet. Lander seems to be giving Elea nor a pretty hard time. Get a few more of his outside readings, Eleanor, and you’ll have him. Say Joyce, we would like to know which one, it is going to be —John or Whitey—or will it be both? Without mentioning a couple of hundred names, I can only say that a lot of romance appears on the campus through love letters. Bill Joyce and Betty Cook seem to have had a pretty good time on the hike Sunday afternoon. Fish-head Martin seems to have organized & new-deal. Betty’s new, and he’s the deal. talks to the two chapel sections. “Our goal here at Brevard is $222.22, which is the reason for the little signs posted around the campus diu’ing the last two weeks,” Miss Gates stated. She added that the real goal is “for everyone to give, not necessarily how much they give, but for ev eryone to sacrifice something.” “The price of one movie here in Brevard will pay for twenty X-ray films for students in Europe,” she said. Two presentations, the musical “Show Boat,” and the play “Cornin’ Round the Mountain,” will be giv en during the drive and all pro ceeds will go to the WSSF. The campaign will last through next week and is expected to be an overwhelming success. —Support the WSSF— MACFIE’S DRUG STORE The Clarion Published By The STUDENTS OF BREVARD COLLEGE Brevard, North Carolina Editor-in-Chief Walter Rogers Associate Editor Linwood Adams Feature Editors Frances Sloop, Jack Prince, Doreen Pearson, Loise Stratton. From its inception the World Student Service Fund has been more than a money-raising agency for relief pur poses. It has performed a vital function on American caimpuses in overcoming isolationism, and has done much to create a more realistic awareness of the total world sit uation in which our nation must play its part. Many stu dents, awakened to a new concern for the post-war situa tion in other countries, have followed their gift abroad to see for themselves where help was most needed. Their reports have interested others and with this growing worldmindedness, the W. S. S. F. program has gradually expanded to include study tours, work groups, interna tional conferences, and exchange scholarships. Relief needs are still acute and must be met not in the spirit of charity but because we are all builders of a common future, embarked on an adventure in understand ing, Many Americans have the mistaken idea that gov ernment aid to the nations abroad through the E. C. A. makes private agencies unnecessary. Government aid does not go to individuals; it is aid for heavy industry, and eco nomic reconstruction. Students abroad will not benefit except as the population as a whole benefits. It will be a long time before European Recovery program aid makes individual lives secure. Yet the whole purpose and aim of that aid will be lost if there are no leaders—doctors, engineers, scientists, teachers—^trained for the day when the war-torn nations are whole again. No nation on earth can afford to lose a single university class.
